I recommend the FairPlay Divorce Plan, as represented by Smith & Wesson or Colt. Springfield Armouries is a good alternate.

If this seems extreme then maybe you should mellow out some and get some good advise before acting hastily.

If this does not seem extreme then call a buddy, you need to get things in perspective.

Nothing is worth the anger I'm sure you feel. Don't let it consume you. It will destroy you and everything you value if you hold on to it.

Trust me, I've been there.

Divorce need not be super adversarial process and I suggest you take a look a non-court approach - especially if kids are involved.

There is a group of Kelowna Lawyers and associated professionals like accountants, and child custody mediators that have formed a group called to the Okanagan Collaborative Law Group (http://www.collaborativefamilylaw.ca). They take the adversarial sting out with a non-court approach plus they save you money in the process.
removed,

I think this is the way that the whole family law field is headed.

Hope this helps!

If parents are selfish enough to destroy a family, then the children should be awarded damages. Many lawyers will create a long-term fight, to extract maximum fees and have no financial motivation to salvage the family.

It's very often just like that sadly....If it's not both parents ,it's usually one anyway.

And anyone who seeks a lawyer "who will leave no stone unturned" is usually far too bitter to see the damage they will cause to their own children in finding one.

Just plain sad IMO.

There's a divorce lawyer advertised on those signs heading up the hill from the bridge. Any law firm strong enough to stand up to those whiners complaining about the billboards is strong enough to stand up for you.

The Canadian matrimonial act says it's 50-50.
If you get lawyers involved, the first person who runs out of money loses.
The problem with getting lawyers involved is now they have intimate knowledge of the finances.
Good luck with things.

Divorce is expensive because it's worth it!

I think we have it backwards. Divorce should be cheap...Getting married should be expensive.

If you want to take all your money, give it to someone to cut your ex apart, and at the end of the day no one is better off than the lawyer...pick one. Any one. They are all the same. All they care about is their money, and how long this could drag on for. Trust me...nothing is worth it in the end. PM me if you would like some details. I now get all the lawyer jokes.

Lawyers are simply a hammer. A tool to beat something else into the ground, and they have a cost that is known to be high.
The problem isn't lawyers......the problem is people whose emotions run so high that their thirst for vengeance blinds them to the costs of using this hammer.

There should, instead, be jokes about couples who are too stupid to figure out the inevitable outcome of their dispute and choose to pick the highest cost route of solving that simple dispute.....all because they cannot keep their emotions in check.

50/50 yep, 50% of all assets, 50% of my pay until retirement, 50% of my pension. For myself I receive a large debt which she accumulated more than half and I'm responsible to pay as she quit working immediately after I asked for a divorce and had a doctor get her a Canada pension for clinical depression. You're spouse can do this for your information and get between 40%-46% of your Gross monthly income. I have two disabled kids who pay me a small amount of rent and live with me. That has been added to my income to get her more alimony. She will receive more of my paycheck than I do and I'm forced to sell my home and find kids homes. Canada family law only benefits those who choose to do nothing and be payed. I am left with almost nothing and will be working for near minimum wage. If I earn anything more she can go after half. A lot if clueless people commenting here, check your facts. Lawyers do nothing but collect money as they play games, knowing exactly how much you can afford before they abandon ship.

Once again, why blame the lawyer when there is a conscious choice by either or both parties to do things in a calm and rational manner?
Yes,they are effectively a "gun" (or hammer, as I said above), but you have to go out and "buy" the gun and you have the choice how to use the gun.
Blaming lawyers for acting on their clients wishes......which, more often than not, would be accurately paraphrased as "destroy them, I don't care what it costs" is bizarre.

The system I see in my everyday life is one that is actually now quite simple for most....where it gets complicated is when people feel they deserve more or should pay less. Your experience is obviously different and I haven't gone through it but many I know have.

As for having a system that would require no lawyers, that is saying we should have a system where "everyone just gets along".....not going to happen. What will the people who want a gun or a hammer do? They will still find one.
