Driving the Coq!

Post by boxman180 »

I have a work trip March 7th in Vancouver. I'm driving the Coquihola but I only have tires with the M+S symbol on them. I talked to a long haul truck driver I know and he didn't think it would be a problem. What are your thoughts?

It really depends on the car and the road conditions, in addition to the tires. Nothing beats winter tires, but by March you may have decent conditions up there on your travel day.
Last winter I thought I could get by with brand new all seasons (M&S symbol) and almost died multiple times (if you saw my driveway you would understand this isn't an exaggeration). This year on my used Nokian Hakkepelita winter tires I am laughing through the snow.

M+S tires are perfectly fine from the legal standpoint.

And roads will be clear by that time outside of some freak weather event.

Don't sweat it.

Its a high altitude hiway...expect nasty weather still in April, May and even June...
Stuff that can get real scary, even with M&S tires. Dont get lulled into the ..should be able to to 130 the whole way... Concept....it can change very quickly.

M+S tires are great but starting the trip with the mind set that you will do whatever it takes to avoid an accident can't be beat..

Oh please, dial down the drama. Been driving it in all season for the last 10 years. In march it's a breeze.

M+S as the OP mentions having are acceptable for the winter time period.

From my experience March is still too early to count on the weather conditions, one way or another.

I've been on various mountain passes right up into early June and experienced snowfalls that rival a day in December.

Generally speaking, M+S should be ok at that time of the year. And as another mentioned, legally it's sufficient. But more importantly it's how confident you are with winter driving with those tires.
