Vehicle keys with transponders

Post by Queen K »

I have never had a key issue before with vehicles. All of them have been pre-2000.

Now I have a key with a transponder. But is the dealership the only place to get a key made with a transponder? Does a key with one really cost $130.00 or more?

Do they really need both of my fobs and both of my other keys to make a key?

Sorry, but I'm in that area of "you don't know what you don't know."
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Oh ya . Forgot about that nonsense . Yes u r screwed . Extra keys for 2003 _ 2010 or so . If it's a dodge or vw or many other brands have stupid things in em to shut the vehicle down after 5 seconds if not the magic key . Need to pay highway robbery prices to get proper keys .
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

You can order many of them from China for a lot less and then Google how to program them. It's usually not too difficult once you know how.

depending on the car, you can program the key yourself. However you must have two factory keys to program one. google it.

otherwise there is a locksmith in town that can clone your key. Ask around.

A google search suggests that your car might only be done by a dealer. Sorry.

You still might be able to buy the fob and save a bit that way.

Some models only require 1 fob for programming.

You might be able to buy a used key and just pay the dealer for the reprogramming.

Mine's $400 for another too. I wish it was only $130...

New Dodge Ram truck key will run you $800 after tax. I understand the benefits of a transponder as an addition to security and $130 seems reasonable but when a replacement key starts creeping close to a grand it's obviously just another way to gouge the customer.

Is that rite . 800 for my proximity key. Unreal . Sorry Mopar I don't think it's worth it . 4 dollar keys were working fine . Let the cops worry about theft that's what insurance is supposed to be for

My car doesn't have an ignition key slot. Without the transponder I'm screwed!

A smart phone can do a zillion things plus broadcast a bluetooth signal. Somehow a key that broadcasts a signal and has one purpose shouldn't cost the same.

Or you should be able to download an app to pair your phone with your car to start it as well as use the hands free.

Yes you are. If you damage, soak, or loose your fob the only option is to get your vehicle towed into a dealership to get it started. How's that for progress?
