My 16 year old daughter is thinking of taking driver training this fall. Who do you recommend?

Young Drivers Of Canada.
Kinda spendy....but worth every penny IMO.

And when the snow flies, take her to an empty parking lot and have her learn to control a tractionless mass governed by physics. It could save her life one day, the typical responce is to brake when in actuality power is needed and to remain calm i.e.don't panic. Practice will enable that. To hell with Any law that forbids it, it's her life and limb at stake.

AMA....if they offer it where you are. Been in the game forever and widely recognized by the insurance industry.

I agree.... Too bad the cops won't let you do that any more...

just have her create an account on the forums and ask for advice. We can teach her everything she needs to know on the forums

Better yet, just read the "Yer an Idiot" posts and will learn what not to do!

Make sure that she (or anyone learning to drive) takes some time to learn some skills in a larger vehicle (a truck if you have one). To many young people take lessons in the smallest vehicle ever to make the lessons easier then they go buy a large F350 and have no idea how to drive it. In my opinion the driver training companies are doing a huge disservice by using tiny cars to teach our new drivers in. My parents made sure that I learned to do some of the more difficult things in a large vehicle. I learned to parallel park in a 78 t-bird and learned to drive a standard transition in a 72 chef 1/2 ton with manual steering. Making things easy will not always be the best choice.

Why do so many leave it to the 11th hour before getting their kids up to speed on such
a huge endeavour ?

It is a life skill, like swimming, It can save your life if you know how, or kill you if you don"t

You can not and will not learn to drive in one driver education program.

It takes years before one should be thrown into the deep end.

I personally had over 10 years of limited, in somewhat controlled environments (with Dad)of driving before
I ever took a certified program.
Back in the day the program was part of the curriculum in High School.
Started in timing with ones 15th Birthday.

My kidlet started steering at about 4, now 13 drives smoother and knows the reasons why and how a vehicle does
what it does in a myriad of conditions.

Rule #1; Never panic.

Panic kills !

Traffic wrecks kill our young more than any other thing.
Mostly due to being ill prepared for the task at hand.

I will add; I hold driving near and dear and am quite passionate about it.
I have spent more hours driving than any other one thing in my life.
It pizzes me off to no end at how atrocious peoples driving skills, or lack thereof, are.
