New comers are coming into valley, I was asked by friends for referral of "authorized representative" on immigration counsel services. This concept looks weir to me, and I have to do some research then find out that Immigration Canada have specific definition on this:

This is a good topic. There is a ton of abuse by folks calling themselves certified immigration consultants. If not certified DON'T USE. If they guarantee approval DON'T USE.

lots of stories of abuse out there

Absolutely true. I heard a few miseries about someone spend $200+k bought coffee shop/small business expecting to gain their legal right living in the country, end up failed the application and had to sale their business at one tenth of their purchase price. Scams are highly suspicious. Word of mouth may be the only way to help those new comers.
My personal experience with http://www.nlai.ca is very positive and I know there are a few other practitioners in Kelowna. https://threebestrated.ca/immigration-consultants-in-kelowna-bc Hope others may share their own experience, good or bad, to stop any crooked practice in Okanagan. Just my two cents.

Just call the nearest federal Liberal MP , tell em you're of Little Joe Potatoes favorite "persuasion " and you'd be happy to vote for him next time and you're in ....

I would rather welcome those with certain capability intelligently or financially, at least they can afford counsel service, than those under not clear "persecution", later on knock you down with an UHAL truck, just like the incident happened in Edmonton not long ago. Our hospitality should be exercised in a prudent way nowadays.

I am sitting here and shaking my head, I was wondering how long it took to bring this up again. We have had a few of "terrorist" attacks in 10 years which have killed less than one white nationalist did in one sitting, but we have no problem to look down on those we take in.

I find it also telling that it is ignored that most of these attacks were performed not by foreigners but "converted" individuals who were not refugees. Let us stick to facts and not fear mongering or passing judgement on a whole group of people who in majority are looking for safety and help, and sadly enough get exploited through scams in countries they seek a safe haven in.

Our immigration and other laws are quite good, and could always use improvement but then address those specific laws not deliver blanket statements as those delivered above, as in reality you could at that point just say:

"Well you know those Scammers are from Kelowna, so all of Kelowna's citizens should be treated as scammers as later on they all will be since they all haven't been looked into enough." <- That is essentially what you stated and is an extremely superficial way of looking at something which is complex and doesn't have an 1 Solution fits all approach.

I think that anyone immigrating to Canada should provide something positive to the country other than just being a warm body.
Proven finance, education and youth comes to mind.
I don't like that we dilute the caliber of or countries population just coz we like to be nice.
There's many countries out there that won't let you in unless you can prove attributes to show you don't be a burden.
