Weird Question ??

recently found out that a Family member left us a burial plot in Surrey...they apparently bought it in 1970 for $200...the plot today sells for $10,000 (the gal at the Cemetery told us that)...the Cemetery will only purchase the plot from us for the cost of what the original owner paid which is $200...

does anybody know if there are Brokers that buy burial plots ?? Looked online and see many privately for sale on Craiglists and Kijiji..is that the only way a person can sell a burial plot ??

Most people try selling privately but there are cemeteries that have right to first refusal or allow you to transfer a plot from one cemetery to another depending on circumstances.

BC: The reselling of burial plots

In British Columbia, not all cemeteries allow the reselling of places of interment. It is up to the individual cemetery’s bylaws whether they will buy a right of interment back, have right of first refusal to buy the right of interment or if they will allow the reselling of a right of internment to a third party.

Consumers should also be aware that there are some cemeteries who offer the transfer of those plots or niches to other cemeteries across the country. This allows consumers to take advantage of the savings they accrued by preplanning.

the gal said we are allowed to sell the plot but there's a transfer fee of $399 + GST and they will take 20% of the original price of what it was bought for (which is $200)

the only other option they gave us, is they will buy it at $200 and there would be no transfer fee...and I can see why they offered that...had no idea how much a burial plot goes for nowadays...
