Darn it. I was hopeing to come back and see a list of jobs that pay $30-$40.00 an hour.

Oh well.
I agree with you Richard, and wouldn't mind if my wages were cut if the cost of things went down too. It's simple logic.
But that is not what the title of this thread says is happening, nor in real life.
The cost of living keeps going up while wages go down. Mine dropped by 15% in 2003, as well as losing holiday days, but costs have gone WAY up since then.
We just had a vote at Catalyst mill for them to take pay and benefit cuts AGAIN. Rumor has it that our paper mill voted "yes" for cuts, but the Crofton mill voted "no". Total rumor so far, i've seen no news reports yet.
And the cost of living keeps climbing....

It is impossible for Canada to compete on a global scale. In every recovery from economic downturn in the past, North Americans went back to work manufacturing consumer goods. Most of that manufacturing capacity has long since been sent to
Asia and Mexico where they pay their workers peanuts. 94% of what is sold in WalMart is from China. There will be no recovery in North America. The wealthy are able to control the Canadian and American governments and will ensure that their wealth isn't taxed, nor will their income be reduced in any way. The price will be paid by the poor, and the middle, classes whose services will fall and their taxes rise. That's where we're at right now.
And it just amazes me that the poor and middle class will vote for governments who do this to them. They are so easily manipulated by attack ads every election campaign.

If what you say in your first paragraph is true, then what's the point of your second paragraph?

One might almost suspect that the poor and middle class aren't actually as hard done by in Canada as one might be lead to believe by all the crying from a relative few. Perhaps they just got a bit spoiled and soft in the last cuppla decades and now don't know how to cope in somewhat tougher times? In fact, that might apply to a lot of businesses, politicians, and governments/bureaucrats/unions too.
