Re: No Jobs......Thanks Castanet
I applied at 3 companies (2 that were posted on castanet and one that was word of mouth) and within 2 weeks, I had all 3 call me....and a fourth that I applied to a month ago called two weeks to late! (I must have a nice cover letter or something...) :ohmygod:
Generally my job search starts on castanet for local work, then I check out the daily courier website and then I move onto Job Bank.
Avoiding scams and covering the cost of running the site both probably played into the cost of placing an add (and the adds in the top bar, I'm sure, only cover so much!)

Castanet Charging for Employment Postings
I am a local employer in Kelowna and in the past I have used the Castanet Employment Classifieds for finding new employees. It has been successful. The people who have responded to my ads have, for the most part, been good.
In the past, as recently as November, it has been free unless you highlight - like the rest of the ads. This past week I went to run an ad and now find out that Castanet is now charging $20 for ads. Yikes! Another cost in this difficult economy. While I appreciate there is a cost of doing business and Castanet must recoup their costs - I think this is an unwarranted price increase - from nothing to $20!
Here is the problem, I know for a fact that Castanet is VERY succesful in the valley. If you have ever talked to any of their advertisement reps they will smugly tell you that. Castanet is also VERY expensive when it comes to advertsing on their site - I guess that is the price of success. Something tells me that Castanet is doing just fine thank you very much!
Needless to say, I will not pay the $20 to advertise on the employment classifieds. I am curious if any other employers feel the same way I do?! I will now use Craigslist or Kijiji or somewhere else that is free.
I do not know if Castanet will allow this post or if it will end up in the garbage bin - maybe if it does someone from management will address it directly with me...

This is a forum - email castanet directly as those in charge of the classifieds etc. don't handle the forums.

Castanet classifieds
Whats going on with the Add's/employment section on Castanet. Did they start charging people money?? Probably not such a good idea if they did. Looks like all the sections are pretty much empty in their Add's/Marketplace. Too bad Castanet was handy if you wanted to look up something or job hunt.

Re: Castanet Adds section ???
Mine looks normal and I just posted several items for sale...I'm able to see all the employment ads as well...Are you trying to look or trying to post??

You might be looking in a different regional setting (like Vernon) and the ads are fewer. That happened to me once.

Castanet classifieds
please relocate this post if need be, but I read that they were seeking suggestions re classifieds / improvements...
what I would like to see is that you can set some defaults to the classifieds ... my preferred selection is the max 24 ads per page, and the prices from lowest to highest. seems that each time you "watch" an ad, you lose any selections previously set, and you can't simply go back to the last page. :dyinglaughing:
probably a complicated matter, but the default search choices would be a nice improvement.

wanted ads
it would be nice to break down the wanted ads in two categories wanted for free or cheap and the other wanted for fair price.

There is a 13 page conversation of requested features here:
http://forums.castanet.net/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=35426
Many of those requested features have been added to this new update.
Besides those requests, we also needed to do some updates to the internals of the Classifieds in order for us to continue handling the growth of the site.

Re: Castanet classifieds
Terrible change IMO. Old way showed how many ads were in a category on the index. Now you have to click on every one to see if there even is an ad. Big waste of users time. The Courier changed to this same style and now they are getting way less ads being put up.

Old format was much more user friendly.
