Social/Religious whats the difference?
I recently got given this link on my facebook and I'm really not pleased with what's happened here
http://www.kens5.com/news/147018585.html
I personally think this is a social issue but if the mods think it belongs in religion instead .... be my guest.
To my mind it looks like there is no winning for this woman, if she had of aborted this child she would have also been breaking her contract (if caught). What about if she adopted it out at the end of the pregnancy? would she have still been in violation of her contract?
The school said she broke the "christian role model" clause, but isn't the school doing the exact same thing?

Well, when you teach at private Christian college in Texas, it's hard to be a role model when you have a kid outside of marriage.

I think the only difference here is, she can't really hide her pregnant belly.
what if she had been a man siring a child out of wedlock.... pretty easy to hide that.
She also has two other children, stated in the second article but it didn't say whether they were from a previous marriage but she definitely had them already before this whole thing went down. So... divorced?

From the ABC link you posted.
Samford, who has two children from a previous marriage, maintains that she did not violate her contract in any way and that the contract's clauses about being a "Christian role model" are vague.

Nothing wrong with being divorced in Christian world. Having kids outside of marriage - quite wrong in their world.

Re: Social/Religious whats the difference?
ah so it did say marriage, my mistake, I skimmed the article to make sure it was quasi relevant and that piece obviously I missed.
I suppose it's the hypocrisy of the whole thing that gets me.... for example, during my parents generation they'd say that a good 70% of their friends got married when they did cuz there was a bun in the oven.
Once the marriage happened everyone was cool with the whole thing, so what's the difference now?
She was engaged, could have stepped up the wedding (even offered to do so) so what's all of a sudden different now?

Re: Social/Religious whats the difference?
The biggest difference here (the social/religious aspect) is that society as a whole is progressing faster than Christian religions when it comes to matters such as this. It does appear to carry some heavy hypocrisy , and is not in keeping with Christian teachings as I understand them, but IMO that is why the Christian religions are losing members. Still, I'm a little torn. The first link described the school as a ministry first and a school second, so that would give them the right to place restrictions on their membership/employees. If it were me, I'd be happy to be seeing them in my rear-view mirror, and not the least bit reluctant to hit them with as heavy a severance claim as the law would allow.

Don't see a hypocrisy. I imagine your parents' generation wasn't hardcore Christian society that this school is. You parents could do whatever they want back then, and whatever they want now. Christian society was never cool with buns in the oven - not years ago, and not now. Especially when it comes to being role models to young kids. Especially when somebody (parents) are paying you to be those role models.

I see it being complete hypocrisy on a whole for all Christian society, considering the story of Adam and Eve having many children out-of-wedlock.

Back then marrying a woman was as simple as dragging her by the hair into your cave with or without her consent.
Ah, those were simpler times...

Presumably God did.
Genesis 2:23-25 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
