You don't need to spend money and buy a metal sleeve; just wrap your card in a piece of aluminum foil and it will protect it just as well.

I also was concerned about having my info stolen off one of these cards, and called my bank to ask for a card that did not have the technology. But they told me I don't have a choice (other than cancelling my card altogether).

Yes you do, punch a hole through the chip and use the card as normal. Its not rocket science.
This will not change anything with regards to how the card is used other than disabling the chip related ease of use features.

You can also get the sleeves at London Drugs...they sell them at the customer service desk for $1.79 when I bought one a couple of weeks ago for my daughter....I have had one of these sleeves for months. They showed this type of credit card fraud on 60 Minutes about a year ago so its not just in the Kelowna area....
