Spray/Splash Park

Postby hotrocket » May 17th, 2012, 4:08 pm

Does anyone know if the Spray Park had passed the interior health inspection? I looked on the webiste but it is not posted as having been inspected yet? I know the grand opening is next weekend but DWK website says it is open this weekend too.

You could call the DWK operations department for that info.

Oh yes I tried that but they are closed and one lady didnt know what I was talking about when I called earlier in the day. I am just a bit concerned because I have heard some pretty gross things about these waterparks. I really dont want my children running around in other kids pee if you know what I mean.

Do you let them use a public swimming pool?

Haha Grandma, well yes you do have a point there. :127:
There are some pretty major differences though when it comes to water treatment in a pool and a recirculated waterpark. The problem I have with an uninspected park is that the water being used just recirculates back in the jets that spray all over the kids. Without the proper inspections and monitoring being done some pretty big health hazards could occur. Interior health stays on top of these parks to make sure the people using them are not at risk. According to IH, if a park has been inspected and passed its testing is should be on the public list. DWK park is not on that list, so I was just wondering if anyone knew why it was not on that list as of yet. I did get in contact with the inspector for the spray park and left a message today. So I will assume he will be ontop of it :sunshine: Guess if it has not passed it will be shut down this weekend so we will just wait and see I guess. I hope we can enjoy some sun and the park! :sunshine:

No there's not, its the same requirements for a pool as it is for a waterpark. A waterpark is essentially considered a pool for water treatment purposes.

And if it's urine you are concerned about, I guarantee there is far less in the waterpark then there is in the public pool.

Did you know they use urine in skin softeners? They call it urea so you don't get grossed out.

Now everyone runs to check the ingredients in their skin cream - LOL

Urea is a component of urine, and it is the correct name so it's not a case of trying not to gross you out. As well it's synthesized for cosmetic use.

This park would have needed an IH inspection prior to opening, but only if it has a recirculating system. So that tells me that they are not recirculating the water at this park.

This is a state of the art water park designed by WaterPlay. I spoke with one of the Rotarians involved with raising money for the community who will enjoy this spray park. It is a recirculating park with state of the art chemical control for chlorine and ph levels. From what he has heard....IH has given the District a thumbs up and the Park will enjoy its grand opening this weekend and the the Mayor will cut the ribbon sometime on Saturday morning.

Speculation is always the key to ignorance and bullsh*t. If you don't know....keep your mouth shut.

I was not speculating. I was simply passing on what a district employee had told me when I had inquired. By the way, the rotarians were unable to raise enough money to complete this project. The District decided to fund the rest with our tax dollars.

I wonder if the ice-cream vendor will be there at the Grand Opening. Please, let it be! What a confrontation!
