Furnace Help

Postby Ronmexico75 » Jul 3rd, 2012, 8:10 pm

I am looking at replacing my furnace and have been trying to do some research on furnaces and companies just wondering if anyone has replaced their furnace and if so which company did you use and how has the furnace worked out. It looks like there isn't too much difference between the upper tier furnaces so I am more concerned with the company installing it, any recommendations of good companies to use?

For many year I have used Peter Gilchrist of RPR Heating and Air Conditioning. They have a little office on Ellis Street. Peter has been in business for decades and is as honest as the day is long. He can come across as being gruff, do not take any offence to it. He knows his stuff and is very fair.

Another excellent businessman is George Little. He has GLE. I believe they cover electrical, plumbing and tin bashing. Like Peter, George has been around for many years and is very fair. I have never used them personally, but know of them through others.

Do not post negative business reviews.Trip

. I have always used Guardian Heating; Marcus is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to heating installs.

Incidentally ,don't forget to scoop some of the grants and energy incentives offered by the BC and federal governments they can help ease the pain of a large outlay.

Trip....as it is a matter of public record, is it ok to suggest a person check for past bankrupcy and criminal proceedings?

I agree re Guardian and Marcus. When I was looking for a new furnace a few years back, I got quotes from them all and was not impressed with the others. I won't name them as I know it would be removed. Funny though, we can say positive things about businesses but negative (even if true) comments are Verboten. I sometimes wonder, however if a positive comment on a business could easily be made by the owner themselves under an alias protection. Its possible. I believe in calling things as they are but under the forum rules, I guess we can't always. Interestingly though, the CIGV thread was often anything but nice, yet it remained.

I can see it being a lot easier for Castanet admin/mods to deal with a blanket policy prohibiting negative comments than to try and sort out the true from the un-true negative comments. Negative comments quickly spiral out of control and leave the host site open to libel action.

Yes RPR is good, I would definitely recommend Peter and his crew. Also Acadian Heating is pretty good too.

After reading your thread, I suspect you have already had a gas furnace installed. If not as a retired gasfitter, trouble shooter try and get a standing pilot furnace as they are easy to repair usually a burn't out thermocouple [ $10.00 ] at hardware store. Unfortunately most furnaced are high or mid efficiency with some kind of electronic or spark ignition which is costly for repair, they replace the part instead of repairing. good luck and I agree there are good and bad service companies out there.

RPR did our furnace and A/C. We shopped around and they gave us a fair price. We will use them again if needed, plus they were fast when the A/C went last summer and we needed it done asap. We even called them when we had an issue with the furnace last winter... it started working again all of the sudden, the tech couldn't figure it out. We never got a bill though, even though he spent over an hour farting with it.

Sometimes with High or Mid operating furnaces [electronic ignition] types, if you turn the power off at the switch on the wall usually in the furnace room for about 10 minutes or so, all the switchs in the furnace go back to their original settings, and then when you turn the power back on it's like rebooting the unit.
