Did students get out school to attend a Warriors game?

Post by averagejoe »

I'm reading yesterday's Capitol News, it says that the West Kelowna Warriors host the visiting Penticton Vee's at a special
11:00 a.m. game so that according to the Cap News...."the unconventional start time is designed to accommodate school kids from the surrounding area ho will be attending the game".

Shouldn't they be in school? Was there no school for them yesterday? Is attending a hockey game now part of the curriculum? Does the BCHL put these type of games in their schedule in other communities? Does anyone know the particulars about this?

I know a few grades from Hudson Elementary went. They walked to the arena with the teachers. Parents would have had to given consent. I think it's cool.

Mt. Boo has a program for hockey now don't they? Maybe part of why kids attended the game?

yes...the elementary schools all went, I believe, and they did need permission.
I think it was cool for the kids, as well.

My children went and yes they were out of school for a few hours. They had a great time, consider it a field trip, not a big deal really.

Just a few hours? 9am - 3:00pm is the hours of school? Games starts at 11:00 and takes 2.5 hours to play. That's a whole school day.

A hockey game is not a field trip. What did they learn?

Why don't you contact the school board? They would be able to answer that for you.

They get all that at school. School is a place of learning. Not a hockey rink.

Good grief

You have the school board working with a business to fill seats. What about the rest of the school district?

Not all life skills are in the class room...you as a grown up should know that.
Or I could teach them to be smoke like a chimney, drink coffee all day and post bad things that pi$$ people off on the internet all day...but going to a hockey game is bad :200:

The things they learned were for a large group setting....

Good Grief: the kids got some physical exercise; and they talked face to face while they walked; and they yelled and cheered for a team which is not much part of lifestyles anymore; and they actually saw physical activity which may rub off on a few of them; and they larned about fair play; and they learned about skill levels of individuals; and they learned about sitting in a group all wanting the same outcome; and they sang O Canada together; Good Grief these are lessons.
