Re: What's for dinner tonight?
I need a recipe for 12-Bean Soup. For meat in it I will use Chinese sausage because it is in the freezer and needs using. Any suggestions?
I have the beans already - a bean mix that has lima, pinto, little green split ones and little orange split ones - and others. It came from the Springfield Bulk Foods store.
Do I have to presoak the beans? How long will it take to turn the beans to mush if I don't presoak them?

Yeah, did that. The recipes that look like my bean mix all say to presoak overnight.
Sumthin tells me I won't be having bean soup for dinner tonight, eh?

Nope, even if they were all ready soaked you would still need a couple of hours simmering to get the right flavour.

Re: What's for dinner tonight?
I stopped buying canned beans (chick, kidney etc) and moved to dried about a year ago when I noticed they were using disodium EDTA in some brands of my canned beans. Thankfully not my baked beans yet, although I could technically make those too sometimes you just want a quick beans on toast. Anyhoo, I try to avoid extraneous chemicals whenever possible and tend to eat only "real" food.
I started making my own mayo as well when there were more unpronounceable ingredients than pronounceable ones.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

I spose you could make baked beans from scratch and freeze them in serving sizes so all you need to do is nuke them when you want a quick meal of beans on toast?
I would be sooooo lost without my freezer. I wish I had bought a much bigger one than the 15 cf I have now.

Baked beans freeze very well. You can use canning jars (remember to leave at least 1" to 1-1/2" head space for expansion), plastic containers, freezer bags or a vacuum seal. If using the freezer bags or vacuum sealed bags, thaw then simmer until reheated.

Can't get a dentist appointment so I nailed it with the immersion blender ...
Looks like sumthin the cat threw up but it tastes pretty darn good. The Chinese sausage is quite yummy in it.

My daughter and I cooked together tonight. Panko chicken breasts, baked garden potatoes, steamed cauliflower and carrots with old cheddar cheese sauce.
