Planning on skiing Big White this season?

Post by An Observation »

Just found out that in order to save money the ambulance station at Big White has been shut down effective immediately. W

Yup, I can confirm that.

Both the paid and volunteer patrollers will be doing their regular thing but transport to the hospital may take longer.

Best thing don't do anything foolish that could result in serious injury....... but if you do you maybe getting helicopter ride.

That's too bad. Good to know. There are usually a few hundred men on the ground during the winter in the area, thinking that there is a EMT at Big White. Need to make a few calls to confirm but that is instantly a huge safety concern. We are not out having fun skiing but making a living on the ground in the area of Big White.

Not sure who has ben paying for the EMT service up there. With the number of people working and playing and living in the area over the winter season i would think a full time on call service was great. Now i'm not sure. Brroken leg at Big White is a call and wait from town?

...and he got a lift to the hospital via ambulance.
I suggest he skis with less vigor this year.

That, or get a bypass.

Jeez, glad to hear your friend was OK, that's scary.

Ya that's a terrible corner to cut, there have got to be a few thousand people out there at any given time in the winter... having an ambulance service for that many people is a no brainer.

No matter who should be funding it that's totally inappropriate. Can't imagine any other town in BC with thousands of people doesn't have a hospital or ambulance...

Most ski hills have very highly trained first aid attendants and great equipment including paddles.

If someone needs a ride off the hill for medical reasons, all sorts of vehicles can do the job of an ambulance until an ambulance is met on the road, or an air ambulance should it be warranted.
