CBC radio takes bite out of KISS-FM and SUN-FM in Vernon

Post by coffeeFreak »

Maybe this will motivate at least one of the local stations to pull their head out of their arses and consider the demographics in Vernon before playing freaking Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, or Justin Bieber ten times a day...

Here's a reality check local radio stations, the younger generations are not the ones listening to the radio these days. Just the fact that CBC ratings went up, suggests that the very large demographic of older adults in Vernon is turning off the local yocal crap and you can be sure that it isn't the younger people who are driving up CBC's ratings.

And play some freaking Christmas music in December...last year a person would be lucky to hear four songs a day right up to the December 24th, even though the Christmas buy, buy, buy, ads were being spewed out quite regularly.

KISS has been so busy trying to replicate SUN-FM's format, they have lost focus...thank goodness for CBC is all I can say.

It wasn't a lot, but CBC's two radio stations in the Vernon area market have taken a small bite out of two competing commercial music radio stations.

CBC 1 and 2 saw a 6.9 increase in market share while the two music stations, Sunfm and KISS-FM lost a combined 6.8 share.

While every radio station programs to a different demographic be it females, males, younger adults or older, Castanet has always used a broad range of measurement, adults 18 to 64.

Numbers also take into account a full week of listening.

KISS-FM remains the most popular of the four radio choices in the Vernon market with a 27.5 share of the tuning market.

Sunfm follows with a 21.2 share.

CBC 1 and 2 are third and fourth with a 16.6 and 5.3 share respectively.

CBC 2 made the largest gains over 2011 numbers, gaining four points.

BBM measures radio tuning in Vernon every fall.

In my mid 30's and listen to CBC more than all other stations combined. Mind you this is when i am not running my own station via my phone =D. If you asked me the chances of being a cbc listener 10 years ago i would have quickly said it was ZERO chance.

I miss the radio stations from Vancouver, Classic 101, the fox and a few others with a bit of edge from Victoria. Ireally only listen to the radio in my car so getting these stations online is a pain =D

A few of my friends have Sat radio and i was really unexpressed by the content.

CBC Media apps on my phone:

Radio
Music
News

I use them all daily. Never do I tune into valley drivel; it's mentally in line with my teenager, however,

"So little for the mind." That quote pretty much sums up Kiss and Sun FM. Justin Bieber? You've gotta be kidding. I listen only to CBC, mainly because of the interview shows and current events. But if you want country music, go to CBC, click on the Music tab at the top, and there are three streams of commercial free country music:

1. Current Nashville.
2. Indie country. (way better). Some artists you've never heard of who are great.
3. Country oldies. George Jones, Cash, Loretta Lynn, they're all there.

They have many streams of other music types.

The clowns on those stations are too busy promoting their various air biscuit blowing contests which take place.

If Sun-FM and Kiss-FM is the best that private industry can give us, then thank God for the government supported CBC.

I really enjoy listening to talk radio, sirius and podcasts

FM music radio has a short music playlist, filled with a ton of commercials.

Q on cbc is one of the best interview shows anywhere in the world. Local FM is garbage and has been for the past 10 years i have lived here. Xm radio is great, and im sure most kids play their own MP3 players... so who the hell is actually listening to that crap. Terrestrial fm is dying a slow death, and they are doing it to themselves for the most part.

Does Vernon really have a station ?
I've been listening to 100.7 or 96.3 for so long , I didn't know
Last time I tuned in to hear the news at the top of the hour , and it wasn't there so moved on.
