Costco/Chevron, Older Motel, Furniture store. All architecturally unappealing and boring.

The bar is as low as it gets and someone needs to clue in the Councillor.

Uh huh, let's strive for the lowest common denominator.

There is too much commercial already available. It is not needed. But, since Kelowna likes to think it is a major urban centre, why not overbuild like the rest of them.

There's nothing to spruce up.

When I first came to Kelowna I was expecting some kind of Swiss mountain village type thing.

My expectation quickly diminished once I drove past the low rent motels, strip malls and fast food joints (in 15 years not much has changed except the cows were booted out).

It's too bad, considering the natural beauty of the area.

There is nothing that can be done now to make this place look any different from 95% of the 'Americanized' cities on the map.
One more drive-thru on the corner - so what?

Th Councillor said "it was a very important location".

Judging by what is on the corner already - what is he talking about?

I didn't say built the lowest common, I said for him to suggest the project is not up to par is ridiculous.

About the drive-thru...

"For me that was a little bit of a red flag. It would be similar to the Rexall Drug Store drive-thru (Hollywood Road and Rutland Road)," says Given.

"I just want it to be of note that a drive-thru at the front corner of a main intersection is not something I would find supportable and would encourage any future development that comes forward to address that in a different manner to make sure it looks more like a gateway project and not a drive-thru."

IIRC the city's objection to the Rexall drive-thru wasn't about traffic, it was about air pollution from cars idling and the aesthetics of a drive thru on a main intersection. As it turns out I think the drive-thru there is barely noticeable.

cars idling ?? its a major intersection ! of course the cars r gonna be idling there ? is that really why council wont rubber stamp the drive thru ??

i can understand if its for traffic but if its to prevent needless idling that is :nutzoid:

Someone needs to remind the councillor, of the lumber yard that once stood as the "gateway" in that spot along with the Vineyard, compared to which anything would look better.

I think you confused Kelowna with Whistler.

In the end I suspect they'll go ahead with whatever the developer comes up with, perhaps with some tweaking to try to make it prettier...that's the way it seems to go in our city. After all, we are "open for business" so if you've got the money honey...

You must have been confused... I think you were thinking of Summerland. And, FYI, it's supposed to be Tudor. :dyinglaughing:

I HATE that Tim Hortons on Powick. Ever go into the gov't office (ie the old ICBC office) next to it? It reeks of car exhaust because there is an air intake is located next to the drive thru. Good on the city for opposing a second in that disappointment of another strip mall. Skyscrapers indeed!
