Lol I'd say your sarcasm meter is broke, but I didn't realise you were suggesting I don't know what its like to not be able to feel my hands and feet for an hour after I got to school and then have them burn as they thawed out... seriously !? do I have to defend myself on this??? Like I've already said, I like the idea of sending kids and juveniles to some rustic little house on the prairie program to give them a chance to learn lifeskills and I am sure they already do something similar somewhere and I like the idea of the coppers in Abbotsford sending christmas cards with a helpline number on them, because it shows a well rounded approach to law enforcement.

I think where some of us differ on this is how we view perpetrators and law breakers... Apparently some of us think that all of them are bad people who willfully make bad choices...

Some are just that obviously, but not all, and probably not most.

I know from real experience working with "juvenile delinquents" (to use a crappy label that you seem to understand,) that even the hardest and meanest of young men and women are victims themselves, and in many cases lack the perspective to understand how their choices affect others... they are hardened and a touch sociopathic not because they are evil but because society has made them like that.

Actually if you think living in the conditions like the old fellers describe back in the day was bad, you wanna try living in the coldness of neglect as a 5 year old when there is not a soul on the planet who cares whether you live or die, or being beaten and abused with belts and sharp objects and burned with cigarette ends daily.
live with adults who are in the grip of drug and alcohol consumed madness and come to the vile conclusion that the only family you will ever have is the local gang who sends you out to steal and commit violent acts or to sell your body as 12 year old to survive...
Do you really think that a child growing up with that reality is going to be phased by a prison in the snow??

kids who survive childhoods like that to become the hardened "known to police" targets of these christmas letters already know hardship its why they do what they do, maybe for some nothing will reach them but a bullet or a concrete room, but even they are worth the price of a 5 cent christmas card and the stamp it takes to maybe change one life.

(to say nothing of the innocent victim that might be saved BTW)

You never know, it might be like leaving your card behind when pressuring a suspect to come see you. They may just hand deliver the cards...sometimes called headgame!

I agree. I think the message "we know who you are and where you live" would hopefully give some wannabe thugs cause for reflection. I think a picture of some guy sitting in a cell behind bars might have worked, but the Santa gear works too.
