I've known more than just a couple people with glitchy 4S's; the 5 has the iOS6 without Google maps, which we use heavily for offspring's transit navigation. Something about iOs 6 paired with the new-fangled connector irks me, I'm heeding my gut feeling on this one.

There are 2 iPhone 4S's in my house and neither of them have had any problems.

It's the iPhone 5 that has the new connector, not iOS 6 -- iOS is just the operating system and isn't hardware at all. All of Apple's latest devices (iPhone, iPod, iPad) have this new connector and an adapter is available for legacy support.

It's great the 4S's in your home have had no issues, others have not experienced the same. I'd normally be inclined to assume user errors, but the differences in uses and user type is too diverse to be so similarly twitchy. I am going to avoid updating my current 4 to iOs 6 because I'm mistrustful at this time after the half-baked maps issue---what else was rushed and perhaps deficient? I dislike the whole new connector principle because it feels like another ploy to get people to purchase more stuff. I put those in separate sentences this time to make it clear that I don't think iOS 6 = new connector.

Apple must have felt the same way about the Maps issue, as Scott Forstall (former iOS head) was canned.

I used to have a 4, lost in in the bush right after the 5 came out so I upgraded. My wife thinks I lost the old one on purpose, but I promise it was an accident haha. Anyways, I find the 5 to be a massive upgrade - much faster app loading/swithching/etc, LTE makes for quick browsing, and the camera is much, much better. Worthy upgrade, IMO. And the Google Maps app is great.

By the way, I fully take acknowledge I am simply being cranky about the connector switch and the change in size because I have perfectly good cases and cables that are rendered obsolete should I get a 5. What I have noticed, is that a number of the Android devices all use the same connector, so there is less nickel and diming consumers upon a device switch.

Dad was given a iPad, he was skeptical but tried it out. Quickly found out one cannot simply drag and drop very common types of media files onto it unless you go through a huge painful process. Have to buy everything thru iTunes is what they want, basically.

Your post makes no sense. There is less nickel and diming with other devices simply because Apple is the worst for this. And even if you do give into their BS tactics, everything you buy from them is only good on their devices. With Android, if you want a different phone/tablet/whatever, you're still running Android so you keep all your stuff while being able to get pretty much any device hardware you could want.

Companies like Apple and Sony and I'm sure there are others, who have proprietary connectors, memory cards file systems, etc, etc. Really burn my shorts. I will avoid their products whenever I can. It is just a scam so you have to buy from them.

Makes sense now, your first sentence made it sound as if you thought other companies were no better than Apple, but the rest of your post, like you said, points out how they are the king of that catergory. Sony used to be pretty bad for that, but crapple definitely takes the cake now.
