People generally talk louder on a cell phone. Those that are that much louder should get their hearing checked.

Jonrox wrote:I know a lot of loud talkers who have a normal speaking voice louder than what most people are like on cell phones. So do we also ban loud talkers from restaurants? It's GUARANTEED that they'll be loud, while the cell phone user MAY be loud at some point (and most people just text in restaurants anyway).

I did say "probably" - I wasn't expecting to try and qualify my statement. Maybe some people should be reminded to use their "inside" voice.

My point is just that some people have ridiculous double-standards.

They get annoyed by cell phone users in a doctor's office because they find watching someone text to be bothersome, but they're ok with watching someone read a magazine.

They get annoyed by cell phone users walking in a mall quietly texting, but they're ok with someone walking with a friend.

They get annoyed by cell phone users making a call in a restaurant, but are ok with someone having a conversation with a friend.

My experience is that people who like to complain about cell phone users just like to complain about lots of things.

I don't answer the phone at breakfast, lunch and dinner. As for cells or other wireless devices in restaurants....it's a place to eat and enjoy face to face conversations, "remember the ole days, if you had to use a phone you went to the pay phone or in house phone. When me and my friends go out they leave their wireless stuff at home (good thing to do....wifes can't find us...) :nyah: :coffeecanuck:

the sign says please turn off your cell phones. not dont talk on the phones. anyways i just got back from the xray clinic and they had the same sign and i looked around and there was 2 other people there a man and a woman and they were both on the phones the whole time.. i finally asked the receptionist why they have the sign up there and do not enforce it. she said that they dont care if your on your phone in this room but want it off when your going in for xrays... then i saw a doctor come out of the xray area and he was talking on his cell phone. why not just take down the stupid sign... what a effin joke

How do yu know they were phones? Were they talking on them? How do you know they weren't iPods or similar devices? If they weren't talking on them why would it bother you if they were sitting there quietly reading or texting them? How were you adversly affected in any way by these two people using electronic devices?

No, the "effin joke" is that some people get so worked up over such trival matters.

Why won't this thread die already? We should have a vote: Its ok to use my smartphone on silent in a walk in or KGH, Yes/No.

Anyone who says no is not intelligent, the answers have been given from the source and its YES.

Omg, I can't believe that this thread is as long as it is. I go to walk in, its busy so I read castanet, cnn, weather channel and anything else... no different than picking up a magazine. Doesn't distract me from hearing my name being called or anything. Seriously, I can't believe someone actually thinks this is an issue. If the phone rings, I put to my answering machine, most do and the ones that do answer usually go outside. Who cares... its not any of my business nor should it be anyone elses. Next topic please!
