The problem with Kabulowna (lol) is that it's always about the old people. I get sick of all the noise about the baby boomers.

What about the younger people with no career options and little decent work available? When they can sell coke or grow weed and make ten G's a month cash money. And get to live in Hollywood North and party 24/7? No need to work their way up the job ladder or move away to work a hard job.

Kabulowna is on the radar, big time. Make no mistake, shootings and gangster activity and very serious money attracts attention, and that is happening. Right now. The fall out will be unpleasant as the greedy underlings look to replace the big names, and play out their games on the streets of YOUR CITY. You ship massive amounts of coke and weed cross border and raise the hackles of the DEA, then you are going to come crashing down to earth very quickly.

Bang bang. You're it.

As far as the comparison to Detroit, I have been there, spent many years there and Kelowna is not there yet. I would say its well on the way though. We need the citizens to all realize that this is our slice of the pie and those of us that saved our hard earned money to retire here should all want that to be a reality. The common Joe on the street needs to aid the authorities and help them rid this area of the low lifes we are speaking of. Enough of turning your head because you want to avoid these people. Why do you think they are coming here. Because we as a society are letting them, hell we are making it easy for them, we are throwing out the welcome carpet for them. The pressure the cops are putting on them in the LMD starts with the citizens being there to support their efforts. So if you want a paradise here in Kelowna you better start, STOP avoiding.

Don't forget that the RCMP were very tolerant of the organised crime here for amany years. THey subscribed to an old theory that encouraged a level of tolerance to organised crime, on the presumption that the criminal organisations enforced a certain level of discipline that actually reduced street level crime.

you bet they were DaveC..I remember when they took over the downtown hotel every long weekend in July, they shut down the back alley, punched tourists who took pictures of their bikes etc...and the police did nothing...I remember being very shocked by that...

Dave C - could you please inform us of how you think the Police were tolerant of organized crime in Kelowna? Do you have firsthand knowledge or is this just a wild a#sed assumption on your part.

The article in Okanagan Sunday also stated that in addition to the distinction of high crime and drunk driving rates, Kelowna also boasts the worst domestic violence statistics in the province. Does this point towards a general degradation of quality of life for local residents? I'm assuming this would apply to the younger demographic, the majority of retirees are fairly secure in their situations.

I thought it was a pretty good article. The idea that crappy Surrey/ Nanaimo (and now I suppose Kelowna) style planning contributes to crime is an interesting concept The town is really chopped up and planned for ease of traffic vs quality of living. The latest proposal from city hall to bring a second highway through the North End is a good example of the mindset of the City planning department.

What crack pipe have you been on?? Get on the skytrain between king george and gateway a continual procession of drug dealers going back and forth all day and NONE paying any fares.

To crown your day off take a walk thru downtown Whalley if YOU DARE.

Had 2 vehicles broke into on last to visits to Surrey, oh the Coq rcmp sent me a tweet to contact the surrey rcmp??? Still have not figured that one out???

You know donald... if it were just the opinion of the judge and not LAW, all the prosecutor has to do is file an appeal and when that appeal makes it before the appeal court judges the result will most likely be the same.

To cutter7 ... Why the false information?

As you are no doubt aware ... but for your own reasons choose to ignore ... the WORDING of the law has far less to do with determining the powers of the police to investigate crime and introduce evidence than the judicial INTERPRETATION of that law ... especially the THE INTERPRETATION of the charter as it pertains to what constitutes "unlawful search and seizure" and "unlawful detainment" and what action by who "brings the administration of justice into disrepute". Why else would the far left wing P.M. PET Trudead hand pick and appoint lawyers dedicated to thinking as he did to insure (my opinion) that the newly written charter was "properly" interpreted. With that simple reinterpretation our criminal court changed from a pursuit of truth and justice into a long winded exercise in legal debate that should have remained in law school. Vastly more "billable hours was the payoff to the legal profession. The powers of the police was greatly reduced. Never in the history of Canada have so few people brought about a change that so drastically affected our society.

Too Funny!

But the reality is that Kelowna is a more dangerous place to live than it used to be and that just can't be denied by anyone with an IQ above 8. Thirty years ago the actions committed by a group of lowlife scumbags acting this brazenly would have been met with RCMP bats and boots. But then again thirty years ago our citizenry and judicial court representatives had a pair would not have been too upset with a few bumps that a suspect might have aquired on his way to a police cruiser. Yes there will be a few incidents where innocent people get caught up in the system on occasion but if you wanna make an omelet...
