Where can I go for good kickboxing classes in Kelowna?

Post by annie16 »

Hey everyone;

I have been wanting to start taking some Kickboxing classes here in Kelowna/ Lake Country, does anyone know where they teach Kickboxing here. I have been googling "Kelowna Kickboxing classes" and all I come up with it Jujitsu classes with maybe a small bit of kickboxing. A friend I believe went to a place called "Avatar" but I some how can not find a website for them. Does anybody know where I can start?

Thanks!!

Avatar was located in the Blue Heights complex at the corner of McCurdy and Hwy97.
It has recently changed to a new name of Havok. I don't know if it's the same owners or the same style being taught.
Best suggestion I can think of if Google isn't helping much...take a trip to the Family Y. Check the schedule online for a kickboxing-cardio class, do a drop-in with the class then afterwards you could ask the instructor where you could go for proper training. Even if they don't know, at least you get a fun workout!

Thanks for this info my friend told me about Avatar but I couldn't find it anywhere, but I did find Havok. Unfortunately they don't have prices online like one or 2 other sites, but I will just contact them tomorrow.

Here is a place that offers free introductory classes so you can see if it fits for you. They are called Great Way Martial Arts. Their website is: http://www.greatwayma.ca/

Here's the page to register for the free introductory classes:

Gracie Barra Kelowna and West Kelowna (www.gbkelowna.ca) has tons of Muai Thai boxing classes taught by some former world champion from Mexico.
Come quickly Jesus, we're barely holding on.

Really Gracie Barra? I went to the one in Vernon for a introductory session and they said you have to take a lot of jujitsu classes and they only offer one class a week for kick boxing. Does Kelowna have it different then?

Yes really Gracie Barra :).. I think Vernon is run by someone else but Kelowna, W. Kelowna and Penticton are all the same group. And yes you can practice only kickboxing and not have to do Ju Jitsu.. My kids do JJ but I attend the kickboxing.

Here's their schedule - All the Muay Thai classes are kickboxing.

Wow, I just saw the new facilities at Toshido (video tour on facebook) . . . they've moved to Spedding Court. I hadn't realized they do kickboxing as well as the mma they're known for. http://www.toshido.ca/kickboxing.html

I've heard great things about Gracie Barra, they're located out on Commercial Drive. http://gbkelowna.ca/become-a-member/programs/ I have some friends who speak highly about their programs.

Havok appears to be moving locations soon http://www.havok.ca/about-us to Leathead Road. Different owners now from when it was Avatar.

All of the above appear to offer free/trial lessons. Best bet is to check them out and see what's what.
