Re: Poachers caught
They were caught and their property was seized. Charges are pending.
It doesn't matter what colour they are, what they did was illegal.
Beck says the poached moose, two guns, and several items used in the offence were seized from the hunters for the investigation. The suspects were allowed to keep their vehicle.
He says the investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid yet.
“There is a variety of different charges they face,” says Beck. “There is no hunting season on at the moment, so hunting wildlife not within an open season is the main charge.”
It doesn't matter what colour they are, what they did was illegal.

Agreed, but it's the definition of poaching as applies to various groups that's the crux of the greater issue, and it's just as contested in Interior BC as it is Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

My understanding is they still have to follow general regulations and have to be on First Nations land but can hunt throughout the year.
I'm lost on this one. Most recently two PBI were caught shooting on posted land. Still no update on charges. I'd like to know why not?? IF it was to non-aboriginals there would have been no question and their firearms would have been seized.
Sadly it appears there are two laws which does nothing for Canadians.

Darn. It would have been way better if the poachers had have been "non-white". Then we could add them to another case and get a clear two case pattern of non-white poaching and we'd have an even bigger shield to hide behind while we threw racist barbs on here. Life's just not fair sometimes.

Elk hunted on private land-what ever happened ?
RE: http://www.castanet.net/news/Penticton/ ... e-poaching
Was just curious as to the outcome of this. I cannot find the original discussion thread at all.

Still no charges laid ...........Not a good sign for anyone who owes private property in BC.

Not necessarily - not all charges are reported in the media and there is a possibility this was resolved to all parties satisfaction.

Fish & Wildlife charges may never become public knowledge.
