Re: Any good movies out there?
I'm coming up on my first week out of camp in a while. I've been told by a trusted source to put "Logan" on my watch list. Has anyone taken in "Ghost In The Shell" yet? That on has had my eye for a bit. There's also a juicy looking trailer floating about for a potential summer blockbuster by Luc Beeson of "Fifth Element" fame, "Valerian" something. If it's half the ride that "Fifth Element" was it will be a treat.

What? You don't want to see Beauty and the Beast?

fluffy - my friend and her family went and saw Ghost in the Shell. We're longtime fans of the movies and even more of the spin-off series GitS: SAC and GitS: 2nd Gig, as well as Solid State Society (Tachikomas!) not to mention the prequels. Anyway - we've been hesitant to go because of it, because of who they cast as the lead, but I got a text last night that was a resounding "GO SEE IT". So now I'm looking forward to it.
I'm nervous about Logan. I like the X-Men, not quite so keen on post-apocolyptic.
And Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
It looks neat. :) Some of those shots looking down between the closely built buildings - totally Fifth Element. Some of the CGI is recognizable of having basis in Star Wars (not to mention that monster trying to eat the ship - Empire Strikes Back, anyone?) as well as Avatar. I'm thinking homage because it's a little too obvious to be a rip-off.

Adds Valerian to my "Must See" List.
In great tradition with other sci-fi I've enjoyed, that one seems perfect.

We watched the movie titled Butter. That's the title, Butter. It should be a cult classic and it's so funny.

Ghost in the Shell is good. The characterization is pretty decent. Scarlett Johannson actually did a pretty good job. Batou was awesome. The others were barely seen/recognizable. They pulled from the movies and series so it was a bit of a mashup (and made me twitch a few times) though this one scene where she runs down a guy using thermopitc camouflage was quite true to the source.
The one, true, BIG lack of the movie? No Tachikomas!
