What Is There For Teens 13 - 17 To Do?

Post by japoo »

Hello all,
I'm trying to find some fun things for my teen to do where she can get out and meet new people. She's not particularly sporty, which seems to be pretty much all I can find for teen activities. Am I not looking in the right places? I would appreciate any suggestions people might have.
Thanks!

There is a lot she can do . . .

Join a book club (check at the local library)

Learn an instrument to join a band

Join the anime club https://www.meetup.com/Blossoming-Anime-Kelowna/
if she likes that she'd like K F/X - the fan expo that's on in March http://kelownafx.com/about/

Or start table top gaming https://www.meetup.com/OKTabletop/
Quantum Games and Dragon Cards and Collectibles host game events as well

There are a number of church youth groups around as well, and you don't have to belong to go to them. We do attend a church, and our teens have always enjoyed the youth groups. Willow Park Church is the one my kids have gone to. Depending on the night, they'll either be in big groups or small groups. Small groups they talk about stuff they have to deal with in school. Big groups might be a concert, or a sledding trip, or a food stomp (wander around to fast food places and stuff themselves), or going to Scandia. Actually, the last two have happened in small groups too.

I wasn't particularly inclined towards sports either - until I found kickboxing. It was so much fun, it didn't seem like exercise. Also, I wasn't really into "team" stuff. There are a number of great clubs in town with good programs, including Pacific Top Team and Toshido. There was even a parkour class being taught at one of the gymnastic gyms (near Springfield, I think?). Sometimes kids just want something different, or "cool". ;)

Hope that helps!
I haven't failed until I quit.

Try the Boys and Girl Club and the YM-YWCA.

I have a tween girl who isn't particularly sporty either. There are hatha yoga classes, art classes in various forms from cartooning to acrylic. What does your daughter like to do in her spare time?

Not sure how old she is, but if she is closer to the 16+ age has she thought about getting a part time job??

I started cashiering when I was 15, and it was a great place to meet other people around my age. My best friend today is someone I started working with 10 years ago.

Conkle Lake Provincial Park has a fabulous sandy beach, we loved it. I wish I could join up with this venture.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Girl scouts?

What does she like to do? There are clubs and activities for every hobby. Dancing? Various art forms? Camping? Even video games (she'll get a lot of attention from the boys).

Send her up here to the farm!

We can keep her busy all day long...

She'll learn lots and have fun too.

She can learn or improve a foreigh language. I think it might be fun, there are lots of great videos on you tube, both educative and fun.
