Shop talk

Postby Jflem1983 » May 21st, 2017, 11:19 am

Been sorting socket sets and mounting them to rails . Getting my workshop in good shape. Thought maybe this could be a spot for people talk about what they are working on . A garage journal of sorts

I have an awesome shop.
1000 sq ft, heated, well lit and well equipped.
I have a huge amount of hand tools, power tools, stationary tools and specialty tools. If I don't have it, I can make it.
There's not much I can't cut, grind, blast, weld, turn, spray, crank, or fit.
I'm a bit on the creative side and I enjoy working in my shop, I spend a great deal of time in it.
I'm always restoring a cool antique or building or fixing something.
I'm fortunate in that I can do stuff for myself, and I don't rely on anyone for their equipment or expertise.
Sometimes I need a third arm tho.
I'm kinda hoping a booze habit will grow one for me, but so far to no avail.
I'll keep trying.
Is the world getting stupider, or is it just getting easier for stupid people to have their thoughts heard?

My shop is well equipped with about everything I need (not want) to conquer any
project along the lines of my likes, mechanical.

Nary a woodwork tool to be found...perfect !

It also holds enough project materials and machines to last me an additional life time.

As for room to work on them ? Shall we say.....

I have one project nearing completion (if there is such a thing)
and
one stripped and heavily in progress......In my LIVING ROOM !

Yes I have cardboard down on the carpet !

1850 sq ft attached garage with a lift. All kinds of mechanical tools from my "automotive" days. Area for hanging Out which includes tv, fridge, cabinets, etc. love to still work on cars but only for myself and friend and for fun. Spend most of my evenings in the garage hanging out...it's pretty comfy! :130:

I am hoping to find a new home that either has an existing shop or I can build my dream shop. I am a woodworker and have a severe aversion to anything that makes sparks or will transfer grease to my hands, that might stain my wood.
I have 10's of thousands of $$$ worth of tools and equipment that has been stored in a locker. I can't wait to get my dream shop, the problem is that real estate in Kelowna, plus the small lot size and the close proximity to the neighbours, makes my hopes and dreams unobtainable in this area.
I am looking outside the Okanagan area to set up my shop. It's really too bad for the Okanagan in particular Kelowna, another craftsman and the associated revenues will be lost from all the purchases and sales of my products, not to mention the employee's incomes that will also be lost.

Bought a few dozen pieces each , of black and white foam 12 inch pieces . 25 of black 25 white. Quarter inch thick . I cut out the shape of my tools from the white pieces . Then glued the white to the black foam . Now it's white with black backing and the shapes of tools cut out . Custom tool box insert mats . Home made for less than 100 dollars . Being organized . Priceless . Also having fun with my new label maker . Gonna have one of the neater shops around

Gonna start a project soon . Trying to decide between a late 70s Ford or an early eighties Chevy . Going to build a nice truck . A working man's truck . 3 quarter ton or better. Probably put a flat deck and a plow on it. Keep my new ram cuz I owe my first 3 born on it still . But build a cool truck for pushing snow and picking trash out of the Bush

Oh man, I was re-installing a carb after kitting it and stupidly dropped a nut down the intake
manifold. :-X
I've tried several different magnets, broke two in the process.

Next, take one of the broken magnets and build my own wire handle to go
"fishing" with.

If I can't get it out, I need to do a tear-down to retrieve.

Better that than bending a couple valves and cracking a piston.

I'm an Idiot !!!! :smt045 [icon_lol2.gif]

Thanks, I ended up just pulling the manifold AFTER ordering a new gasket.
found the pesky little nut sitting right inside one of the middle intake ports.

I never would have been able to fish it out from where it was.

I may just go buy a Boroscope anyways, just because......well....

It's a tool I MUST have.... :smt045 [icon_lol2.gif]

I have one if you ever need to borrow.

That is, before you get one for yourself.
