Driving is all about paying attention. Many areas multitasking is a huge plus, driving is not one of them.... again paying attention to what you are doing as well those around you are doing.

key is arriving at your destination alive & in 1 piece, along with everyone else on the roads.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Sure, square it up that way. My car has a dial for twilight. And *bleep*, the ambulance didn't dawn on me until he was right in my *bleep*. Stereo at high decibels as a youngster.

Again, not buying that b.s. we've all done it. Liar if not saying so.

What_the wrote:Ya sorry, Ty, your list is mostly bs. You're actually coming here and saying you've never left your blinker on?. Not buying it, at all. If you haven't, you will. You must be not much older than the new driver you were talking to, and if you are, learned not much.

Sorry, you brought this up

A little sensitive are you? I hope you don't do these things often.

Where did I imply that I've never done these things? I'll also admit that when I have, I've been distracted or in the case of not driving in the center of the lane - I've been driving a vehicle I'm not yet comfortable with.

Be comfortable with admitting your mistakes. Nobody is perfect.

Sensitive? No. I'm a :cuss: up.
Don't have a perfect insurance record and the ministry wanted to pull my licence. Many years ago mind you. But I've learned from those experiences in my advanced years of 44;) ; full licence after 16, And experience is one in hand rather than two in the Bush. Took me a while to get that quip.

Yet I still get schooled by those older than me (dammit, not old , but my joints say otherwise)

Thats what I'm seeing in this post... two in the Bush. Sorry man, I've read your posts and seem stand up. Not trying to be a prick, calls em how I see em. :130:

Number one thing that can hurt you on the road .. cops watch out for cops . Wear your seat belt and don't speed in Calgary. Speed on open stretches of highway . Some towns are worse than others
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

You have got to stand for something . Or you will fall for anything "Aaron Tippin"

The first time one of them actually looks around and shoulder checks before pulling out in front of me, I'm going to track him down and congratulate him.

Sounds like he's a good candidate for watching defensive driving and advanced videos. Lots of tips and tutorials on YT.

You can still buy https://www.amazon.ca/Roadcraft-Police-Drivers-Handbook-Foundation-ebook/dp/B00O8SQ446/ref=sr_1_1?ie it's a good read and makes for a cheap gift. UK police manual so just reverse the lanes/direction of travel when reading.
...

Excellent recommendation, that book has more wisdom than the entirety of the ICBC website combined. The IAM instructors are excellent and have excellent advice. They also drive pretty fast too from my experience and are definitely not always obeying the limit, but they seem to be well in control. I was on a track with one and he was almost as quick in his Suzuki Cappuccino as I was in my Seven-a-like, but he was always cool as a cucumber when getting out after a stint on the track (while I was sweating like a pig)

A few additional things to look out for:
- Things dangling around or sitting on the dash
- Fog lights on (front or rear) and no fog
- Interior lights on at night while driving
- Head bopping along to the music
- Loud music (if you can hear it, they won't hear you)
- Ear buds
- Travelling in the overtaking lane
- Braking for corners and crawling around them but accelerating hard during the straight sections
- Accelerating into passing lane areas, even if not passing anyone
- Accelerating while being passed
- Arm hanging out of the window or resting on the window frame (this can depend on the vehicle though)
- Slowing down at night when there is oncoming traffic and drifting over towards the ditch
- Stopping at roundabouts or yield signs, when there is no reason
- Failure to modulate speed to reduce the chance of having to stop at a yield sign
