Driving is all about paying attention. Many areas multitasking is a huge plus, driving is not one of them.... again paying attention to what you are doing as well those around you are doing.

Where did I imply that I've never done these things? I'll also admit that when I have, I've been distracted or in the case of not driving in the center of the lane - I've been driving a vehicle I'm not yet comfortable with.

Don't have a perfect insurance record and the ministry wanted to pull my licence. Many years ago mind you. But I've learned from those experiences in my advanced years of 44;) ; full licence after 16, And experience is one in hand rather than two in the Bush. Took me a while to get that quip.

Number one thing that can hurt you on the road .. cops watch out for cops . Wear your seat belt and don't speed in Calgary. Speed on open stretches of highway . Some towns are worse than others

Sounds like he's a good candidate for watching defensive driving and advanced videos. Lots of tips and tutorials on YT.

Excellent recommendation, that book has more wisdom than the entirety of the ICBC website combined. The IAM instructors are excellent and have excellent advice. They also drive pretty fast too from my experience and are definitely not always obeying the limit, but they seem to be well in control. I was on a track with one and he was almost as quick in his Suzuki Cappuccino as I was in my Seven-a-like, but he was always cool as a cucumber when getting out after a stint on the track (while I was sweating like a pig)

A few additional things to look out for:
- Things dangling around or sitting on the dash
- Fog lights on (front or rear) and no fog
- Interior lights on at night while driving
- Head bopping along to the music
- Loud music (if you can hear it, they won't hear you)
- Ear buds
- Travelling in the overtaking lane
- Braking for corners and crawling around them but accelerating hard during the straight sections
- Accelerating into passing lane areas, even if not passing anyone
- Accelerating while being passed
- Arm hanging out of the window or resting on the window frame (this can depend on the vehicle though)
- Slowing down at night when there is oncoming traffic and drifting over towards the ditch
- Stopping at roundabouts or yield signs, when there is no reason
- Failure to modulate speed to reduce the chance of having to stop at a yield sign
