Guess it depends on how Uber drivers accept payment doesn't it? Am not familiar with the app and how they accept and record rides.

I am unfamiliar with Uber but it does sound interesting. Anything that can be done to IMPROVE our taxi business around here, would be great. The story that twobits told re speaking in foreign language and the driver caught red-handed I would not doubt for a minute. Some years back we had a new cab company established in Penticton; cannot recall the name but they really tried hard to "clean up the act" over some of the questionable companies and drivers that we had in the past. Their drivers were clean, well dressed and cabs spotless and nobody smoked in them. I don't know what happened to that company but wish it was still around. I won't mention the names of the companies in town, now, but they could use a big shakedown for sure. I wouldn't ride in one if my life depended on it; would rather take the bus or call a friend for a ride. I think that there is room for a new company (perhaps Uber) to come in, with new cabs, perhaps hybrids, spiffy drivers and if done just right, they might be able to clean up the cab industry here. I would welcome such an attempt; its surely needed.

Instead of being ridiculous why not just get him to stop at an atm along the way?

Well Todd maybe just maybe this individual was not being ridiculous at all. Maybe he was just being a PAYING CUSTOMER who should be treated as such and not given the runaround about how to pay. My God - this is 2017 let's move on - speaking of f'ing ridiculous - this cab company should take a hard look at itself.

Come on fluffy,,,, no way to track the income.

Yes, southy; almost thought you were excercising your democratic right to an opinion here...lol. I happen to agree with you and its high time that more companies got on board with debit, credit cards, etc. Its so nice these days when you go to a restaurant and they can now BRING you the portable card reader; rather than have to go up to the cash register or have a long cord on it. Some parts of technology are welcomed. ETA: the cab driver would not mind at all, stopping off while you go use the debit machine....after all, his meter will still be running! (but thats beside the point)

Todd, you need to read the OP again. He clearly stated that he required a debit card capable cab. They sent a cash only cab despite his request. What is "entitled" about expecting to receive what you ordered???? IMO the "entitled"in this scenario would be the cab company who instead of declining the fare, would expect the customer to extend his trip and fare amount for a stop at a bank.

yes he ordered a debit capable cab and didn't get one, and got out. Great. What's the big deal? People make mistakes. He/she even said right in the post that a proper cab was sent succinctly.
Instead of whining here about your inconvenience, why not work with the guy and have him stop at an atm? For those complaining about the meter running while he stops, if that happens, just take it out of his tip. That is of course, IF you people tip your cab drivers. I could see some of you not.

Those things cost money to rent buy, lease and use, all because people are too lazy to stop at an atm somewhere along their travels, and then expect the business owner to bear the cost.
Ya it can be sometimes built into the price but then you're paying more.Which is a strange happening since everybody is looking for a bargain.
