Busted poachers say sorry
Two Kelowna men have been sentenced for killing a cow moose out of season near Beaverdell.
According to conversation officers, the men killed the animal in November 2015.
Randy Watson took responsibility for killing the moose and pleaded guilt to hunting out of season, unlawful possession of wildlife and resisting or obstructing an officer from exercising their duties.
Watson was fined $2,200 and must perform 52 hours of community service. He also was slapped with one year's probation and a one-year hunting prohibition.
Burc Colins took responsibility for aiding in the killing and pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of wildlife and resisting or obstructing an officer from exercising their duties.
Colins received fines totalling $1,000 and a one-year hunting prohibition.

what a joke. at the least they should have rifles taken and banned from hunting ever.

Re: Busted hunters say sorry
I disagree with the title to the story.
It should read, "Busted POACHERS say sorry."
These two fools are in no way hunters. They are thieves who should have received lifetime bans and have their vehicle and rifles confiscated and sold to fund conservation programs.

Illegal moose hunting
I don't think the hunter's apology which included the phrase "the price of store-bought meat was very high" is an acceptable apology. I am sure there are lots of people struggling with the high cost of store bought meat. This is a person who feels that the rules do not apply to him. So if can not afford the cost of something, for example a car, does that mean he can just take one from you or me?

Re: Illegal moose hunting
Just gonna clear this up right away before discussion ensues.
This person is NOT a hunter--He is a poacher! Big difference!
Hunter's respect their environment, their kill and the ethics, rules and regulations that apply.
Poachers are not hunters.

Re: Illegal moose hunting
As a hunter I feel as though his apologize was something just to make people think he's sorry.
If you are truly a hunter you know when you can hunt and don't do out side of the dates aloud.
I personally feel like this gives hunters a bad name and is a slap to face. Both these guys need there gun license fully pulled and there hunting license as well. They should also not be aloud back in the bush for a long time.
They should also had to have paid to have the meat they did shoot properly butchered and then have it donated to families in need.
All I can do is shake my head and hope karma finds them.

In the story it says "In lieu of the forfeiture of a seized firearm, both men were given the option to provide a public letter of apology".
That is the only reason they apologized.
They should not have been given that option.
Get them where its going to hurt and have a real impact on them.
Keep their guns.
They should not have been given their firearms back.

Title has been changed after real hunters let Castanet know their error. Thanks Castanet, for correcting the headline. These poachers got away cheap. They should have lost everything, vehicles, gear, etc.

"Watson and Colins admitted to providing false information to the conservation officer."
This is the line that says everything about the character of a poacher.

If the price of meat is too high most people would just go without it:
