Freedom's Door 50 bed facility at Rutland & McCurdy Rd

The two transitional housing places I've been in recently, like last night, are well run, clean. Closed circuit cameras, security locks to get in, had to show id. The problem is that this proposed one is just in the wrong place. That's it. Wrong area, too close to schools.

So sad when City Council just seems set to plow it through.

Why does it matter if it's close to a school? Are they going to try to buy drugs off the kids? I have no issue with this facility being right next door to one of my children's schools.

Here is my say...

Close enough to Schools and kids so the young ones get to see and witness what life
can become if the wrong paths are taken.
What happens if one falls through the cracks of a our Medical system.

Why ?

It certainly shows what not to aspire to when one gets older, and the ramifications of when
things go wrong, they can go really wrong.

Not to be looked down ones nose at but straight on, eyes wide open, with
critical thought.

Mine have been through there many times. Just due to logistics though. The idea of exploiting the down and out to make some point to my kids always seemed wrong to me. I just think integrating all sorts of people is better for everyone and fosters a true sense of community

The idea of exploiting

I never looked at it as exploiting, just educational.

But, coming from a guy who likes Zoo's, Aquariums and the Circus.
(bad analogy, but...read in perspective...on point...educational.)

I've always endeavored to expose my kid to what she should aspire to, not what she shouldn't.
Anyway, that's me. Seems to have worked fine so far.
She's never touched drugs, has no interest to, we've never once had a cross word, she's well adjusted, and is working on her second degree.
And she knows considerably more about the effects of substances on the body than I ever will.

This privately owned transitional housing facility is a done deal. It was a done deal long before the 200 neighbors who live in the local community were given a chance to voice their opinions and they were all in opposition to it in their neighborhood. They were all but ignored.
The property has been rezoned for the project.
The last hurdle is a public hearing but it's just a formality- that will also be ignored.
Consider the person who is running this and his credentials- his resume is easily found on the net- his ties to city hall run deep.
The residents in the local community were never an issue to consider. Any public input was just a formality that had to be addressed.
This project will go ahead regardless what the long term neighbors want.
And not ONE of the immediate neighbors want it beside them. Not one.
Imo this is what bugs me the most. When the immediate neighbors so vehemently oppose a venture proposed to be built next door but they're just ignored means something isn't right.
It's the integrity of the process that's in jeapordy.
What if a private developer proposed to build something next door to your home, let's say, a neighborhood pub, or a transitional housing facility- and the neighborhood was given multiple chances to voice their opinion of It, as part of the process, and every single one opposed it, yet they were all ignored and it went ahead anyway?

In the middle of ALR lands where at least an opportunity is there to work off the resources taken by the residents
makes more sense than on some random street corner.
With that would come some sense of self worth and accomplishment.

Sounds like the neighbours are just b*cthing. Just more NIMBYism. Can anyone give a valid argument for why a school zone makes any difference at all to this location? I'm more concerned that this is religious based. We are severely lacking secular treatment programs.
