Looks bad, Queen K:

tsunami info (not sure how to interpret it):
http://www.tsunami.gov/

ETA: interpretation:
An earthquake of a magnitude 8.2 struck off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico, late on Thursday local time, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said, citing USGS data.

Tsunami waves of more than 3 meters, or nearly 10 feet, above the tide level are possible along some coasts of Mexico, the PTWC said.

It added that tsunami waves of 0.3 to 1 meters above the tide level were possible for some coasts of the Cook Islands, Ecuador, French Polynesia, Guatemala and Kiribati.

Tsunami waves of less than 0.3 meters above tide level were possible Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Hawaii, Honduras, Jarvis Island, Nicaragua, the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, Palmyra Island, Panama and Peru.

ESTIMATED TIMES OF ARRIVAL
--------------------------

* ESTIMATED TIMES OF ARRIVAL -ETA- OF THE INITIAL TSUNAMI WAVE
FOR PLACES WITHIN THREATENED REGIONS ARE GIVEN BELOW. ACTUAL
ARRIVAL TIMES MAY DIFFER AND THE INITIAL WAVE MAY NOT BE THE
LARGEST. A TSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES AND THE TIME BETWEEN
WAVES CAN BE FIVE MINUTES TO ONE HOUR.

LOCATION ------ -- REGION ----- COORDINATES -- ETA(UTC)
------------------------------------------------------------
PUERTO MADERO MEXICO ----- 14.8N 92.5W ---- 0548 09/08
SALINA CRUZ ------ MEXICO ----- 16.5N 95.2W ---- 0551 09/08
ACAPULCO -------- MEXICO ----- 16.9N 99.9W ----- 0552 09/08

LAZARO CARDENAS MEXICO --- 17.9N 102.2W -- 0619 09/08

11pm PDT is 0600 UTC so the waves will have hit any of these areas already. May have to wait until daylight before we get reports of actual wave heights.

Highest wave seems to be only 3.3 feet so should not do much damage at all.

From Yahoo news....

Mexico earthquake: Mysterious green flashes light up the sky after tremor

Mysterious green and blue flashes were seen by witnesses in Mexico City after it was rocked by a magnitude 8.2 earthquake.

The powerful quake set off a tsunami warning for at least eight countries – and at least six people have been confirmed dead in the most powerful quake to strike the country for 100 years.

A video of the earthquake lights was captured by a witness – capturing a strange, little-understood phenomenon.

Mexico has been hit hard: two or three tropical storms, and two huge earthquakes? One of which was downplayed in the news. Well they can't down play this one.

http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/19/americas/ ... index.html

The video is shocking.

Fox news has a different take on things and the death toll is at 79 now and expected to be rising.

Brick &/or stone buildings do not fair very well in quakes. Japan is one of leading countries on seismic building construction (Japan has 1,500+/- quakes yearly).
Even steel and concrete buildings unless built with seismic event in mind could be very unstable.
