While the local headlines lack intellectual creativity, they do capture attention. It appears the owners of the media outlets don't particularly care what kind of attention they garner so long as they are noticed.

If you are a good journalist you should be *bleep* some people off every now and then. Are you insinuating that reporters should only be nice and watch what they say around the PM?

So what would "earn" your respect? If he was Conservative would he "earn" your respect? If he put more money back in your pocket would that help "earn" it? I really do not get why people complain about politicians, like they care about you or the little guy. Liberal, con, NDP, doesn't matter...
