Because you're complaining about the teachers not volunteering. So do you?

So: GB points out how BCTF activism had made it more difficult for teachers to feel good about volunteering for extra curricular activities, and your takeaway is

Clearly, some of you do not want this thread to be about the BCTF, and want to make it about something else entirely.

But that is what it is about: how the BCTF's past actions have had a negative impact on the effective the delivery of public education. The most negative impact has been this "unappreciated" narrative, which they created for their own political purposes and you promulgate for yours.

Teachers spend endless hours volunteering with zippo for pay or often even acknowledgement.
In the US of A most coaches etc. Are a paid position.
That is why they often have way better teams.

All the teachers working at the BCTF have volunteered also.
They rotate in and out of the system.

PEOPLE spend endless hours volunteering with zippo for pay or often event acknowledgement. Most PEOPLE don't stop volunteering their services in order to leverage their employer.

^^See?

The topic is BCTF b.s. Many posters here believe the BCTF's continuing stream of b.s. to support their own political activism has been detrimental to the delivery of public education in BC. Instead of sticking to the topic, George+ posts about how underappreciated teachers are, and next thing you know someone will come on here and claim this thread is full of people who bash teachers.

But for some (most?) of the left here, all they know is how to play or support the "victim'. LOL

Teachers must do this when they're ordered to by the BCTF, whether they personally agree with it or not. I've known plenty who didn't agree with it.

How often are other employees ordered by an organization like this one to stop doing something they love to do, when what they love to do is something over which that organization has no jurisdiction?

And the BCTF counts on this and plays them for all they're worth.

Chyren wrote:This thread really shows how ridiculous some people are.

Teachers work hard and deserve to get paid for it. The government has been ignoring investing in schools for a long time and finally the courts agreed. end of story there.

The teachers that work in my kids' school are there early, and leave late. They work at home at night. They work to help my children read and write and learn. As a parent I support them and they support our kids. They are coaches and volunteers and don't get paid anything to do these extra jobs.

If you people that seem to bash teachers because you feel they make too much money and have pensions and such should really look into what it takes to be one. They're educated and believe in our kids!

Time for people to really stop complaining about what is not a real problem at all.

Thank you to teachers.

When you go over the bulk of this thread its bashing the actual teachers as much as the BCTF.

That, the ones who stand in support of the BCTF, and who opt to ask how high, when the BCTF says jump, pretty much bring upon themselves.

If teachers as a whole wish for their profession to regain the level of respect it once had, the BCTF needs to be done away with.

The BCTF has always behaved in a radical confrontational manner, has no qualms about using children as pawns in their strategy, and quite frankly is never content with the outcome of any negotiations they enter into, regardless of political party even.

Basically they justify their existence by being perpetual discontented whiners, and that just doesn't come across as an admiral quality in a public education related sense.

Teachers spend endless hours volunteering with zippo for pay or often even acknowledgement.

That always cracks me up.
Lots of people volunteer for coaching kids in various sports, scouts, cadets, food banks, fund raisers, clubs, and societies.
Most of us don't need a "acknowledgement"or renumeration....we do it because it is the right thing to do and gives us a chance to pay back all the adults who volunteered when we were kids.

Wonder how many would volunteer if their children weren't involved in the activity?

This discussion will not achieve anything as there are too many variables - I hope the question I just posed points that out.

There are plenty of adults out there devoting their free time to various causes, clubs, minor sports, and societies without having their children involved.
Unpaid, unsung, and sometimes unappreciated....yet they soldier on.

Good on some teachers for volunteering outside of regular work hours.
But let's not pretend they are special, or somehow better than all the other good people volunteering out there.
