Wal-Mart To Replace Human Workers with robots

Post by averagejoe »

Well, well after Wal-Mart destroyed many small town businesses across America and creating a lot of part time work at minimum wage...now their going to replace many workers with robots!

Maybe now those empty shelves will get filled with the employees already in place.

One day I hope to be greeted by a robot saying "Welcome to Walmart" instead of a grandma who can barely stand.

Considering the shrinking workforce this will certainly be a help. As well as providing new and higher paying jobs creating and maintaining these automations.
Everywhere you go there are "We are hiring" signs including WalMart, so how is this a bad thing?

Really just an extension on the self-checkouts, which have been in use for almost two decades. One staff member overseeing eight or ten tills. Who needs staff when you have automation.

If someone is trying to leave the store without paying can you imaging grandma chasing them across the parking lot?

That's good in theory. Unfortunately, the last time I used the self check-out at Safeway, it broke down three times while I was scanning my goods. Each time I had to wait while the lone cashier tried to figure out what was wrong. The third time it broke down, the cashier told me I had to take my groceries to another till and try again.
Needless to say my groceries were left at the till and I took my business to Save-On. Haven't been back to Safeway since.
