Well the taxpayers can afford million dollar homes, 7 year truck loans, mexico trips, etc etc, a little more in taxes shouldn't hurt a bit. It's common knowledge that home owners have lots of other investments for their retirement, too. No need for a shortfall.

Groovetunes :135: Your common knowledge is astounding. I had no idea homeowners had all that.

CF says "Trevena's response is typical of most politicians; mine is typical of most seniors. :smt045"

No you speak for yourself only. This senior sees Claire Trevena as a complete Fluff-up and airhead.

It's all in the Okanagan housing thread. :130:

Ah yes, the housing thread, the take-no-prisoners thread, the one that makes the political threads look like the hang out for pantiewaisted, pink tulle wearing limpwristed milquetoast weak posters.

It's all clear now.

I feel that any senior that is able to walk upon any one of the ferries should have free passage. After all they will not take up much room, cause any damage, require little to No assistance from ferry employees, and so what, if 30 little old ladies sat together in the upper lounge, had tea and enjoyed the return trip, just for a day out?

On the car level though, the charges should be the same regardless of the age of the driver.

Yet, in my opinion, anyone that has to travel to and from the mainland for medical treatment, diagnostics, compassionate care, etc should be granted a discount based upon need and ability to pay.

You know very little about seniors in this province. Most of them are retired and don't need to commute to work by ferry. Most of them live within spitting distance from the rest of their family. Again, no reason for ferry excursions to visit relatives. The health care is no better on the mainland than it is on the island, so no reason to cross the pond for doctor's appointments. Most seniors can't afford Vancouver Canucks/concert tickets, and even if they could they wouldn't choose the hassle of possibly missing the last ferry home and spending the night in some over-priced hotel.

No, most island seniors have very little need for the BC Ferry system, so it's a smart PR move by the NDP to offer them free rides again. The loss of revenue isn't an issue.

So therefore: giving them a free ride on a boat that is going their way and they don't have a car that takes up any room....Is a big NDP "feather in the NDP cap" and might buy them the senior's vote the next time around...woop de doo!

The NDP gives up nothing and gains the seniors' (that are still living) vote, in the next election.

Again you get a fail in economics. ANY loss of revenue is an issue, in regard to anything, a loss has to be made up for, with cash money, not hollow promises...............

Well, it's not going to be made up for by the user-unfriendly BC Liberal methods, thank goodness.

Not until this short-lived abortion of a government is booted out, thank goodness.

Trevana and Popham. Two of the dumbest people in BC handed tremendous positions of responsibility with no brains whatsoever to do their jobs, all because they knifed Carole James in the back and propped up the current dumb-dumb NDP leader. What a world we live in.

Speaking of ferries, why did the BC Liberals/BC Ferries commission an old ferry from 10,000 miles away last year, when they could have commissioned a new one to be built by B.C. shipbuilders?

Do you really need to ask that question and supply the link that also answers it? Did you read the article?

Have you any idea what it would cost to build such a boat from scratch and compare it to the cost of a slightly used one? That ship is only 17 years old, I have owned cars that were up to 30 years old before someone else came along and bought them from me.
The refurbishing will provide employment to many BCers, and get that route up-and-running much sooner that starting from scratch to build a new one. That was a good call and will service the residents of Bella Coola and Port Hardy and for less money than building a new one.
Bella Coola is mostly a native population, how much longer do you want to deprive these people of their ability to travel?
