Centre Dividers, Pros And Cons

New dividers being placed between Stickle and 48 in Vernon.

Since I have observed that, when there are 'no-posts' added to a roadway on one,
or both sides.
There is nowhere for snow, water, or debris to blow to.
Snow; creating a vortex of swirling, white out conditions.
Rain; pooling and swirling spray.
Both causing visibility issues, and,
Debris; greater risk of tire punctures.

Furthermore add the gradient increase/decrease, the curve, how extremely rough the overpass is
and the slippery conditions of the overpass.

I see more issues, in this particular stretch, than there previously were.

Yes, little to no head-on, but, many more pin-ball, pile up's.

Reducing visibility over a very rough, often slippery section of road is, to me,
not the best idea. (in this particular instance.)

Monies could be spent better elsewhere.(much larger topic)

Haven't read about more pile up's on 97 after the last centre dividers were put in.

I'm NOT a fan of them but we got to accommodate *bleep* drivers.

Just got back from running through Kelowna twice I needed to change lanes, the moment my signal light goes on, drivers close the gap.
I'm pretty chill guy behind the wheel lol but man WTH!! Lol

At least the dividers prevent (for the most part) those crossing into oncoming traffic. I see drifters going in the same direction too many times it's almost becoming commonplace.

The dividers do a good job of fixing the symptom ... but we've still got the disease ...

Waste of money. Money can be better spent on proper road maintenance and effective road markings that actually last more than 3 weeks.

Depends on how much a human life is really worth, once gone will never come back.

Since it prevents head on crashes which usually results in at least 1 death or more, I have no problem with dividers.

So far the examples we have are $500 - $1500 ... would like to see how the new Ontario proposal goes with $50k, might wake some people up to actually pay attention to their driving ...

I get that, but proper road design and maintenance benefits all drivers, not just a handful.

Since that has not happened up to this point, I don't expect it ever will.

Since lane drifting or as I call them "Creeps" was brought up, I have also
noticed this is much more common after the installation
of the centre no posts.

Seems people are scared of the wall, and/or wary of all the debris.

I find no real issue with them personally, I just think that in this particular
instance, over a very rough, often slippery, varied grade roadway, it just
may produce more harm, than good.

If they run them right across Stickle to prevent left turners, then the trade-off is good.

Really? Try driving the curve on Benvoulin heading north towards Springfield in the rain. Or the last curve before the turnoff for UBCO. Large pools of water form and cause visibility issues when cars drive through them spraying water onto the vehicles next to them, not to mention hydro planing with the resultant loss of steering control.

Centre dividers don't just mean the ones you see on highways!
