Most Overrated Band of All Time?
I think it really depends where you live. Personally, I think there are some crappy Canadians bands with lead singers who can't sing like 54-40 who get played only because they're Canadians. Outside of Canada, the most overrated is probably someone like David Bowie or perhaps someone who has become a legend because of a movement they became a part of -- Bob Dylan, the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Elvis, etc.
What do you think?

Being played, and overplayed because the nationality just happened to be Canadian has been around for a long time.
Were you around when Ann Murray first appeared? Every song she put out was played to death until you just couldn't take anymore. Don't get me wrong, she really could sing her heart out. Back in those days there were very limited radio channels, no CD's, so when driving you chose to listen, or turned it off. At home we put on our LP's to listen to our choice of music.
On Sundays there was nothing but church muzak.
I am so happy that there are multitudes of choices available today.

The Doors.
And not bands, but Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. Icons they may be, but there was no melody to their music, just noise.

I was going to mention Jimi Hendrix and Joplin too. Talented in may respects, but over-hyped for sure.

I'm getting ready to ban a few people.
I've always thought that Rush would be much better if Geddy Lee didn't sing and if the songs actually made sense.

Elvis - Great songs, which he didn't write, adequate performer therefore mediocre musician
Dylan - Great sings, which he did write, though he also stole some, but mediocre performer
The Eagles - I hate the f***ing Eagles, man
Prince - Great talent, but the delivery was too tacky
Country and Western - Some great songs, but the entire genre is about as intellectually stimulating as a McDonald's Happy Meal
Rap - Just because music is hard is no reason to give up on it completely (JK, some rap isn't bad)
REM - Whine, whine, whine
Dylan - Great sings, which he did write, though he also stole some, but mediocre performer

I love the f***ing Eagles, man. They always gave me a peaceful easy feeling.

The Beatles. Complete disaster of a band without a single good song.

Hey, I thought this was to be Canadian disasters in songmanship!
Janis Joplin. Hadn't particularly cared for her until one day whilst shopping and her song "give me a little piece of your heart, baby" was playing over the P.A. System, and there I was, performing in the aisles.
I was escorted outside forthwith.
