How do you spell dumb?
Who stores 5,000 ounces of silver and gold in a storage unit?

Who tells anyone, because obviously someone knew.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

However, the owner of the unit was unable to get to the unit right away. Police were finally called two days later.
Someone stores over $150K in a commercial storage unit and takes their time hauling *bleep* there when notified the alarm was tripped and takes 2 days before notifying the police?

That, &/or someone observed what the owner was putting into that storage unit. Even the best locks on the market only deter lazy thief/thieves.

Sounds a bit fishy. Has this person never heard of a Safe Deposit Box?
Insurance scam?

Fishy when the alarm company notifies the unit holder Friday night but they said they couldn't gain access to their unit until sometime Sunday.

Well, they needed time to get the goods out of their house. Can't be caught with stuff that is going to be part of their
(phony) insurance claim.

Re: How do you spell dumb?
I doubt there is any insurance company or policy that would cover the full $150,000 in such easily cashable property stored in a publicly accessed storage facility. Doubtful if you could even get a rider to cover that. Even most home policies are extremely limited in coverage for the aforementioned items.
Imagine trying to apply for insurance and explaining " I'll be putting a bunch of gold, silver and cash in the tin can too, $150,000 worth...are we good"?
I'm leaning towards dumb. Perhaps if they were smart enough to attempt an insurance scam it would have been done differently.

If you really wanted to, you can insure pretty much anything.
It's all a matter of the economics of it. An insurer may want a considerable amount of money to assume a risk and you may feel it's uneconomical to have them do so, but anything is insurable.
But, in this case, I think somethings not right.
The scenario isn't right.
He coulda stored it in a major secure deposit box at a bank cheaper. And I really don't buy his two day response time.
Something's not right.
