I'm always interested in these cases.

As much as the public loves prison violence, correctional institutions and their staff do have a responsibility to those in their custody. As others have pointed out, CO's have been known to set up these situations intentionally. It happened twice to that fellow in Alberta who killed that older couple and their grandson.

It's a quite a coincidence that as soon as that gate was accidentally left open, an armed inmate happened to be waiting.

While I don't have any sympathy for what has happened to this man, I'm interested to see if this lawsuit gets any traction. We'll probably never find out though.

A friend of my fathers got charged for "stalking" years ago, he did 3 years down in the lower mainland. I remember when he got out he told my father that 90% of the time when it comes to inmate justice the guards turn their heads, they know what's going to happen.

And most of that "inmate justice" is over internal beefs that most of us would find pretty infantile. I know someone who's served time in both Provincial and Federal Institutions. He described prison as basically a very violent middle school. That said, idea that someone will "get his" in prison tends to be a might far-fetched. Violence is a reality there yes, but the idea that "good" prisoners dish out violence to "bad" ones as some sort of secondary justice, just isn't how it works. For the most part, no one is willing to extend their stay in the big house in order to play out someone's revenge fantasy.

Persons convicted of sex crimes, such as the person this thread is about, are the lowest caste of people in prison. They stick together though, and aren't always the easy targets some on the outside believe.
