Families are told the submarine crew members have all died. Such a sad conclusion, I too was hoping for a Chilean like rescue. Alas no.

May they Rest in Peace.

Sad news and horrific for the families and friends left behind. I had my fingers crossed too for a better outcome.

Two days after all hope has passed, JT finally sends out a search party to join other nations that have been searching for days.

You are not alone in your wonderment.

It seems like such a pointless exercise so late in the search. Why not deploy earlier?

Now we hear that water got in the snorkel. So if we start from the beginning they had a problem with the batteries, or a battery. So they would have been forced to surface because fumes are dangerous and also they would have to come up to near the surface to send a radio signal and the heavy seas would have been a serious problem for them using the snorkel or by opening the hatch. too much water in the battery compartment would be even more serious for acid fumes in the entire sub. These fumes would cause an explosion from a spark, or by using the electric motors. Or by trying to pump out the water with the electric pumps. This explains its possible demise?. The implosion one would be because they went to extreme depth because they could not pump out the water if the batteries failed. Sad ending either way.

Is there a link to the report? How do they know water got in the snorkle? Was it found? :135:

Report today, on the tv of maybe the image on the ocean floor might be the missing sub. The other report of the water getting in via the snorkel was stated by the navy of the radio call stating this, If one knows submarines they know if they get fumes from the batteries while under water they must surface to get oxygen, or fresh air. They would not get to the actual surface as the heavy seas would have prevented them from doing this so they would be just below and using the snorkel to run the diesel engine and try to purge the acid fumes. But rolling in the swells would put the sub on a slant as it rolled in the waves and water probably got into the sub from the valve that is supposed to stop this water from entering. If the acid fumes were too serious they would have been forced to run the diesel and the result is obvious as they need the air from the snorkel to supply the engine with the air for combustion. If the batteries were compromised too much they could not run on electric so no pumps or oxygen could be circulated so the situation is very dire. They were at the point of no return and this is sad to see occur. Explosion, implosion the news is all bad. R.I.P and sympathies for all that are related. or friends and fellow Mariners.

They had 2 subs now just one. Diesel electric subs. Largest sub built in Germany since WWII. Among the fastest of the diesel electric types.
Canada has 4 subs, all diesel electric.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.
