Curious question, who will be enforcing this stuff (beside the taxing)

Again the tax paying public will get gouged by not only Federal and Provincial levels of government to save the planet, but more so by local, lowest level scumbags who try to be like their "bigger siblings". This lowest level of government are truly the dumbest of the bunch and Kelowna has "taken the Gold" repeatedly for decades. Its amazing how extorting more and more money never solves ANY of the so-called problems we apparently created.

Ban drive thrus. Lol. That ought to fix a lot of problems lol. Raise parking rates. Lol. Parking already keeps people away from downtown.
Oh a city wide EV program lol. That ought to really help the 25 or so people driving electric cars. Not sure what it does for me .
A new gas tax. That ought to be popular lol
Oh improvements to transit. All the buses look empty to me. No one is taking the bus now. Why spend even more on it. Even bc transit knows rider levels are really low here .

Idling ban has to take the cake for the very stupidest suggestion. Am i to shut off my engine at red lights. That light on burtch across 97 its a ten minute light often times. Guess ill be shutting the truck off.
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

The only people this will push into using transit or walking are the people who can’t or just barely afford to drive now.
The rest of us will grumble and groan and pay more, while the city lines their pockets and attempts some half-assed feel good dog and pony show regarding the environment.

Agreed. I live downtown, work full time across town with job sites all over the place and have kids. Outside of school and work we have stuff to do during the week. We wouldn't get home till midnight and would be walking because the busses aren't running if I relied on public transportation. And how would I camp or kayak or hunt? How do you do a Costco run? My life would suuuck if I didn't drive.

The worst offenders are the City of Kelowna , FortisBC and BCTransit

City of Kelowna vehicles idle while they stop to paint lines on roadways , clear sewers and storm drain and empty garbage bins.
FortisBC have GPS devices in their trucks that drain the batteries so that they have to be jump started and idle to recharge them after every long weekend ...

BCTranist is a no brainer. How long does it take to idle a bus to charge it`s air braking system and heat it ?

Basrat is talking out of his carbon hole AGAIN.

Well, if he continues to push this. I suspect he will succeed, just not have your name on the ballot.

It's always fun seeing subjects like this come up ...

Costco? For years I've been going to Costco with a cargo trailer attached to my bike, loaded up $200 worth of food and toilet paper ... when my daughter fit into a bikeseat she'd go with me ... still working on a hitch that will let me hook the trailer to the chariot ...

Idling? Do you really think you'd engine is going to cool down so quickly that you'll get cold before the light turns green?

Taxes going up based on property values? It doesn't work that way ... our portion of the whole tax requirement is based on our property value but that doesn't mean that our taxes go up by 15% if our valuation goes up 15% ...

Gas tax that actually pays for roadways? Considering how roads have been subsidized by the non-motoring public for decades it's about time we actually pay for what we use ...

Drive thrus? Not only are they a waste of gas through idling but they have also been shown to increase danger to everyone, calls have been made for years to consolidate ... "“The very presence of the drive-through lanes may lull drivers into thinking they are in a car-only space, with only their Chalupa standing between them and the street"

So, are there any responses that are based on a well thought out argument? Or is it all knee-jerk entitled resistance?

No, cycling isn't the solution for everyone, neither is transit ... but as Jflem1983 said, "I think I am in the vast majority" ... exactly, the fact that cars are the majority is the reason that we have more deaths on the roads, more congestion, higher taxes ...

War against cars and the article shows an image of the summer haze we had from forest fires. That is called lying.
Again, another tax grab to get a bigger piece of the pie. Claw in another $50,000,000 bux from our pockets to enable the city to spend $5,000,000 on EV parking, sharing, and charge stations, to help the 5 people in Kelowna that actually own an EV. Sounds like a socialist disaster plan in the making.

I knew we'd only have to wait a few minutes before you tell us all how you manage your world. I am not going to slam you for "making it work" in what it is you believe in. The vast, vast, vast majority of people cannot duplicate what you brag about incessantly and in the real world change to be like you is not in the cards. I wonder if your circle of friends are on the same page as you? I am thinking get-togethers are fairly thin if preaching and bragging about your lifestyle over others is number 1.

For the vast majority public transit is NOT an option. Jeez we don't even have dedicated bus lanes, they use the same roads as cars. The HOV is no quicker so it really isn't quicker taking the bus and unless it picks you up from home and drops you at your destination at the time you need it is just pants. We have no railway or any other form of transport to rely on and until they can make the City walk and bike friendly only the real biking enthusiasts will take to the streets on 2 wheels.

On Saturday i parked in mall as my wife had an appointment. I decided to walk across the road to BMO bank but the mall parking lot has no pathway to assist. I had to walk along the grass meridian or the road way in order to get to the crossing. The path runs along Dliworth but not into the mall at that crossing. Would be unsafe for disabled people or elderly. Badly planned as far as pedestrians are concerned

HOV lane was a trash idea, and still is trash. We should've swamped the HOV a long time ago, it should've never even been thought of. Having a highway run right through the middle of town is bad too. As far as transportation and making this city bicycle and pedestrian friendly I think we are long over due. I will never take public transit, I do ride my bicycle once in a while, I enjoy riding my bicycle, its refreshing but for shopping I would much rather drive my big gas guzzling V8 truck. As far as idling goes, I love leaving my truck running, it's ignorant but who cares? Not only is it not good for the environment but it's also not good for my truck, if I run into the gas station, I usually keep my truck running, in the summer for the AC and in the winter for the heater. Also, Enterprise is a sh*tshow...
