Your brainless trolling aside, when it comes to our military, we shouldn't be nickle and diming their equipment. We should be equipping our force with cutting edge, not used, equipment. We have a small military, and although our training is very high end, we need equipment and the means to match.
This entire aircraft replacement plan has been a disaster from the beginning.

F35 wont work in cold . Boeing was going to rip canada off .whole debacle caused by harper . Super hornets are. Better for canada at this juncture . Not buying from boeing is a win for canada .
Unmaned fighters are coming so i like the move to buy aussie jets as they can be updated with latest electronics

"We want to make sure during the competition that anybody who competes...can actually live up to — to those requirements," Sajjan said, referring to the air force statement of requirements, which sets out expected missions and capabilities.
Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan doesn't really seem to know what he is stuttering about, he too needs someone to type out a release for him. I wouldn't trust a word this fellow says, he has been caught in the past being untruthful. Listen to the video, now I know why he is Trudeau's right hand man.
I'm really unsure why there is a competition, they used to respond to bids when ask to supply equipment...I think Sajjan is unsure too.

We need the CF18 as Trudeau is letting in ISIS militants. We can then use the planes on the them when the rehabilitation fails....

The fact is that you don't have facts. None, what so ever.
Simply spitting off numbers and naming a few planes and booing Boeing aren't "facts".
You don't know what technical capacity our Air Force requires when looking at aircraft. You don't know what the tactical specs required are. In general, you have no idea what makes aircraft A better than aircraft B better. Your opinion is simply based on blind political emotions and have no understanding of what our strategic needs are.
Nobody wants to hear your opinion. They just want to hear their own opinion coming out of your mouth.

Lawson, who served as chief of the defence staff from 2012 to 2015, said he thinks the feds have "absolutely" made the right move by cancelling the plan to buy brand new Super Hornets instead.
"They’ve saved themselves a lot of trouble to have an orphan fleet of 18 that need new pilots, new technicians, they save the RCAF [Royal Canadian Air Force] a lot of work," Lawson told Evan Solomon, host of CTV's Question Period.
The Australian jets are expected to be less expensive, and easier to train Canada’s troops on. Though, the planes are 30 years old, the same as Canada’s current CF-18 fleet.

We are buying jets from Oz that are being retired. like Cuba, we are keeping old junk on the road and scrounging around for parts, while Trudeau tells everyone to cheer over our new fleet which will all soon drop like flies. We need to stay ahead of the game with new equipment and training to stay relevant and useful. I am sure the Australians are happy about finding a home for their retired planes.

I finally find agreement with you. That took a long time.
Why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice.

Re: The Math behind Trudeau's used CF18 purchase
The F18 is still a very capable aircraft and more than enough for what we need. The US Navy just extended their F/A-18 lifecycles for the next 20 years.
There's been a joke in the USAF for years saying that when they retire the B2 Spirit's, the B52 crews will come by and pick them up. Nothing wrong with "classic" aircraft if they still do their job and do it well.
We've been flying the F18s for the last 30 years - we know the aircraft, we have the support infrastructure in place, they still do their job extremely well - no reason not to acquire some new birds to last us another 20 years.

There's a competition because government, like many larger private corporations, set out clear request for proposals that outline the requirements of a certain contract, as well as how each submitted bid is assessed and how one is chosen.

Seeing as we have CETA, and seeing as the yanks are not "playing nice with others", maybe we wind up with these: http://saab.com/air/gripen-fighter-system/gripen/gripen/the-fighter/gripen-e-series/Gripen-E/
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

The Grippen E is the least expensive option compared to the Euro fighter or the French Rafale and the F35.
