The surfboards are in the shape of one genetically mutated Orca.
And would they not be black and white?
Who is going to "get" the colours on that thing?

It looks like a hand with too many fingers flipping the bird to me. I see nothing resembling an orca. And why does art have to be native enough?

Haha! Just finished reading that story, ^^ and the first thing that came to my mind was people are going to be looking for the paddle board rental kiosk. The second thought was, if an artist requires a plaque or some other form of explaining what the piece is supposed to represent - then they've missed their mark.

First thought I had was if that's supposed to represent an Orca, it must be one that's starving to death.

I think Victoria just beat Kelowna in the most useless public art competition.

Though it's obviously been years now, whenever I drive past the dolphins, I wonder how many tourists wandering along the lakeshore are looking for dolphins.

That thing simply doesn't represent Kelowna as far as I'm concerned, not any more than that frayed stainless steel railroad track on stilts, at the entrance to the bridge does.

At least the wire bear is representative of this region, as are the sails and Ogopogo.

Just because you do not understand or appreciate art does not mean it is not beautiful or worth the money we paid for it.
I think the bear installation looks great. There are always people around it and taking pictures of it and selfies of it with themselves in the foreground.
Maybe you just don't appreciate the art. And that is fine. I might not appreciate what you consider art either. And that also is OK.

Art is a wonderful addition to a city. We need to foster wonder and creativity. I just think it should be kept local. I don't like farming it out to people who aren't part of our community.

The chunks of beams by our bridge at least came from the old bridge, pays homage....significance.
It at least has a meaning to it....

I personaly like it..The History buff in me...

Yes and when in a public sense, represent something local, in a fashion that doesn't require a five hundred word explanatory plaque.
