I would tend to agree with these comments, same future/fate for workers in B.C.

None of this should come as a surprise. The minimum wage is one of the most-studied topics in economics, and the consensus view of the research is clear: Raising the minimum wage reduces job opportunities. A summary published in late 2015 by Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco put it this way:

Recent research using a wider variety of methods to address the problem of comparison states tends to confirm earlier findings of job loss. Coupled with critiques of the methods that generate little evidence of job loss, the overall body of recent evidence suggests that the most credible conclusion is a higher minimum wage results in some job loss for the least-skilled workers—with possibly larger adverse effects than earlier research suggested.

If anyone has any doubts about what most likely will happen, just look at Denmark. They have a minimum wage of 24$ an hour and while they are the happiest country on earth (on average) they also pay the highest taxes at an average of 40%, 60% for anyone that makes over $55k. To give you a comparison I pay about 28% in taxes with a 50k+ salary. In California people that make over 400,000$ pay 40% in taxes and that's the highest tax rate in all of the USA. In the USA A vw GOLF cost about 22,000, In Denmark its over 40,000 And they pay almost double than what the USA pays for most regular grocery items.

So I ask you the public, Is this really what you want?

Thanks for the update. Simply stating that the minimum wage is $24 was misleading. If you are experienced and in a field that requires a level of expertise, then of course you earn more, as the free market already does here. Entry level employess will not get $24/hour, so it is not a true minimum wage.

I assume that when the calculations are done correctly that it will likely be less than that - still higher than here though. When you factor in the higher cost of living there, it likely works out to be less though when compared to Canada.

I still prefer the Australian system which is often misrepresented to be around $17/hour. I can't remember the details as I've looked it up and shown it here numerous times and won't do it again now. It is a sliding scale based on age. For younger kids (ie: still living at home), the wage is less than here. As employees get older, the wage increases so that when you are in your 20s, you get a more or less liveable wage. It is not a perfect system, but a bit better than what we have here now......

I wish I had the answer to this, but I don't think anyone does, or ever will :)
