Foreign Buyers Own Less Than 5% Of Homes in Vancouver.

Post by Leifer »

Well this is a bit of a surprise to me.
I could have sworn the NDP has been bleating on (for years) about the B.C Liberals failing to curb foreign ownership.
So 4.8% and dropping.....

Two essential strategies for success.

1) Never reveal all you know
2)

Here's another article from the summer

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/bc ... e30790277/

giving the reasons for the disagreement:

NDP Leader John Horgan called that claim absurd and noted that the government likely captured less than half of all foreign buyers because the data were self-reported and didn't take into account numbered companies that purchased property.

Also, Vancouver != lower mainland in the context of these numbers as far as I can tell so Richmond, Burnaby, New West et al. are not included.

So Horgan is looking for an excuse for his xenophobic dog whistle politics.

Anybody who actually researches the topic of metro Vancouver housing policy knows that the whole "foreign buyer" thing was the a political ploy by the BC NDP and their junior varsity NDP (Vision and bicycle Gregor) to cover up a decade or more of bad policy, poor management, outright stupidity in city policies. Burnaby's NDP demovictions Derek Corrigan didn't get that moniker by promoting affordable housing policies. NDP Bicycle Gregor always seemed to have TONS of $$$ available for bicycle paths/bridge lane closures for bicycles and pet project crud like that - but oddly, no money for social housing and no money for stopping raw sewage flowing into False creek ("green" my foot!).

"The NDP can't manage a popcorn stand" was true 50 years ago and it is true today.

So now Horgan gets caught in his xenophobic porky that the NDP have used as rallying cry, and he all but cries "fake news". Too bad Johnny boy, anyone who has been following the mess yer junior varsity has been creating knows that was a deflection and a disgusting dog whistle for votes.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

Nobody wants to hear your opinion. They just want to hear their own opinion coming out of your mouth.
