Re: Hydro paying for no power
Did you do any research?
The facility referred to is a natural gas fired plant that was guaranteed sales (whether the power was needed or not) under a long term contract signed by the 1990s NDP - with my least favorite crook from that time period Dan Miller in charge at the time. The power plant supplied electricity to the CZ pulp mill and Glen Clark and Dan Miller were scrambling to try to keep that old mill in operation - and it needed that electricity from the gas fired power plant.
Of course, that old pulp mill died a natural death years ago.
BC Hydro was caught in the vice of a crooked contract signed by the NDP, and the Clean Energy mandate to reduce GHG emissions.
I can not fathom how the desmoggers of the world can jump up and down about not running a natural gas GHG emitting power plant. But then there is no logic in the current so called "green" dogma. BC Hydro is one of the cleanest power producers in the world, yet the desmogging "greenies" somehow have cast BC Hydro as the enemy. How stupid.

boy does the NDP just plain suck. Who would ever vote for such scum? Thank you MJ for drawing attention to what a rotten party the NDP truly is.

yes it does show what complete idiots these Desmog enviro-lunatics are. I for one think that burning natural gas is great - almost zero pollution as it is so clean burning, so basically zero particulates. What an amazing fuel source! So I can see why people would be behind a natural gas facility, even people as insanely dumb as Desmog.
But if we have hydro instead, that's even better, given the renewable feature of hydro. Natural gas, nuclear and hydro, you can't go wrong with either of those three as a source for power generation, all clean and great for the environment. Imagine how clean the air would be in China if they burned natural gas instead of coal!

any sort of link to support this? An actual link and not a link to some enviro-nut in Parksville writing praise-filled gibberish about Desmog?

From what I gather from the news articles and comments posted, the 55 million is to switch from natural gas to site c dam hydro. Is this, not a good thing MJ? Less pollution? I haven't forgot you hate site c with a passion so I don't expect a rational decision on this.

Old news. Didn't find a link off hand but it's to maintain a backup power IPP near Campbell River. I remember something that it is used periodically but as a backup source only in case of peak load

So MJ are you warning us to stay away from IPP contracts the same as many of us have been saying all along in the site C thread and others. Those of us who have been promoting site C agreed with this since day 1. Glad you are finally seeing the light. No more Ipp's, no wind, no solar, no guaranteed contract prices with suppliers, home owners , business's or anyone else. We will soon have site C which will enable us to get rid of these terrible contracts as soon as possible and hopefully never sign another one. Again glad you have finally seen the light and realized what a disaster they are.

Lordy, you latch onto a soundbite that you think supports your position without even realizing what kind of a fool it makes you out to be without doing some simple drilling for reasons. You are a lazy contributor here akin to a to a horse fly or deer fly that has a target, knows what it wants, is tenacious in it's efforts, but lacks the reasoning to evade being smacked easily.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
