Poaching as a topic should be under Social Concerns.

There should be no South this and North that. And why have different threads per story? Poaching is poaching.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Hit them in their wallets, seize their trucks and guns and sell them to fund wildlife research, and if they repeat they can spend some time in the crowbar hotel thinking about it for a while.

You are correct or they would not be poachers. I do think that if you seize the vehicle, the weapons you might see a change in the ethics of hunting. Turn all over to the crown and let's have a auction!

Sadly, you wouldn't want to be a Game Officer as they would likely poach you too as the laws do little to curb that.

don't you ever forget why caribou, elk and moose numbers are getting dangerously low to start with..

That's because of an unprecedented predator load and habitat problems.

I likely had to be stamped by several layers as the political ramifications due to the Indiginous factor. The problem with knee jerk reactions on charges, it can and does create bad case law if a poor case is brought before the court.

Always cross your T's and dot your I's before court, this case could impact post land laws and Indiginous hunters.

This looks like a painful solution. :D

Convicted poacher ordered to spend hunting season weekends in jail

GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas – A North Texas man who pleaded guilty to poaching in October has been sentenced to spend every weekend of hunting season in jail for the next five years.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said John Drinnon, 34, of Whitesboro, was also sentenced to five years of probation and more than $18,000 in restitution for killing a 19-point buck while trespassing on private property. TPWD says Drinnon must report to the Grayson County Jail each weekend of deer season, beginning Dec. 30, 2017, for five years – the full term of his deferred judgment period. He is also prohibited from purchasing a hunting license while on probation.

According to TPWD, Drinnon told them in December 2016 that he killed the buck on public hunting land in Oklahoma. After an investigation, Drinnon confessed to shooting the buck in Grayson County from a public roadway with a rifle.

Poaching bottom line should be, never again own a hunting license or firearm in this country.
As for the racist comments some have alluded to, what of the current racism the government has just applied to the BC working tax paying citizens regarding no grizzly hunting but allows native hunting ? Bigotry at it finest from our so called leaders.

Some poachers probably don't have a licence for anything.
