Ruled by criminals?
BY NORMAN FARRELL ON JANUARY 10, 2018 • ( 18 COMMENTS )
Before July 18, 2017, if British Columbia was not ruled by criminals, it was ruled by people who turned blind eyes to criminality.
Attorney General David Eby issued a statement that ought to be national news in Canada. It included these words:
"…I am concerned our province under the last administration has gained an international reputation as a scofflaw. As a jurisdiction where the rules do not apply to white collar crime, fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering, where even if the rules do apply, enforcement is absent.
It is clear, in my opinion, that the previous administration was aware we had a serious and growing reputational issue. It is also clear to me that they evaluated the costs of cracking down on white collar crime, on fraud, on money laundering, and determined that the benefits of inaction outweighed the costs of action.
Because they did not take the actions required to address the issues we have."

^^Well, heck why not allow the HA, Chinese drug money in so they can launder it through BC? Buy up property, buy influence in municipal/provincial governments and not have to pay taxes? Encourage corruption!! What an admirable plan!!
NOT!!
NOT!!

^^ In politics the slander and libel laws don't seem to apply and you can just say anything you want. X and his/her party are a bunch of criminals . . . blah blah blah. Sadly, when there is actual malfeasance it gets glossed over when everything is labelled as criminal.

There is recorded evidence of money laundering activity from HA and Chinese 'high rollers' that has been ignored by the past administration.

^^ Stated as if the HA hasn't been around for six plus decades, and just decided to show up under Clark's Liberal government rule.
Same stuff has been going on for years, and Eby is off his rocker if he suggests otherwise.
Perhaps he could ask some of his buddies from the old NDP 90's guard why they didn't jump on the issue back then?

Campbell knew of the issue back in 2008. What did he do? Nothing.

On Wednesday, Solicitor General John van Dongen called an emergency meeting with the head of the B.C. Lottery Corp. after a CBC News investigation showed suspected money laundering at the province's casinos was under-reported.
As part of the investigation, CBC reporters exchanged thousands of dollars in bills of $20 and $100 for cheques from the casino, demonstrating how criminals could use the gambling operations to hide illegal revenues.
Documents obtained by the CBC also showed casino workers routinely observed dozens of suspicious financial transactions each year, but only a fraction were reported to the federal agency that tracks money laundering.

Has anyone ever in the history of BC been charged and convicted of money laundering ?
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

^^Urbane - I think it is good no matter what party investigates money laundering - the criminal element in BC MUST be curtailed. If you think otherwise and deny the fact of money laundering and allowing criminal influence into the province, I wonder about your own ethics.
