Gov looking for wine markets in Asia ?why

Post by common_sense_guy »

Why is the government looking for new wine markets in Asia for private enterprise businesses ? I wasn't aware that the government was in the wine making and selling business. Isn't looking for new markets up to the business that is selling it? Anything the government does our tax dollars is paying for. Can someone explain the logic behind this.?

There are lots of wine drinkers there so why not promote our products. It's not just Wine that the Gov't promotes but all products we grow and make.

It's good for BC.

They don't know a lot about wine in the Far East as yet. There are a number of countries who are Islamic which prohibits consumption of alcohol for Muslims. However with so many different nationalities working in and visiting these countries, there is pressure on the hotel and restaurant trade to supply quality wines. While I visited KL for extended periods of time, I was able to arrange with a small retail outlet to order in decent wine from Australia - mostly he stocked pretty low-grade wine from France which he did manage to sell for snob appeal.

When you see 'wine drinkers' putting ice cubes in their glasses of red wine, you get the hint.......

Good for BC to go after Asian markets for our superior BC wines!!!

No different than Horgan going there to promote lumber products.

Isn't it obvious? Increasing exports from BC increases jobs.

Christie should have been pumping for BC wine and BC lumber instead of LNG. How many of her MOUs that she obtained in all her travels have actually resulted in enhanced trade as a consequence?

That's how govt helps the economy grow. They're constantly promoting businesses because stronger businesses at home mean more tax revenue and more support for them. American govt promotes their arms dealers by allowing other countries to buy weapons from Boeing and Lockheed Martin. In return, Lockheed Martin and Boeing open more plants and pump up more money into the economy.

Same with BC. They need to promote BC wines, they need to promote film business, basically whatever can be sold.

and in 2021 when Andrew Wilkinson, our newly elected Premier with a majority of 84 seats, heads to China to promote BC wine:

"This is a PRIME example of how the BC Liberals are WASTING our MONEY trying to sell our INFERIOR wine to Asia! Disgusting!!!"

Because she didn't come back to BC with trade deals or MOUs to brag about.

We heard about every 'success' she claimed to be part of but nothing to do with wine or lumber.
