^^ So Bruce Ralston wants money spent on daycare instead of spending it on trying to expand markets in Asia. He must be mad at Horgan for going on that recent trade mission to Asia. The money spent there could have been spent on daycare instead.

This is probably the best reason not to vote for Ben Stewart next Wednesday, and the best reason not to vote BC Liberal in 2021, but only the Okanagan voters will ignore these warnings. Fortunately, the Okanagan doesn't rule B.C.

2008 BC exports to China: $1.96 billion
2011 BC exports to China: $4.8 billion
2017 BC exports to China: $6.67 billion

Seems to me that having an ongoing and significant sales force in China makes sense. Export industry jobs tend to be higher paying quality jobs - a lot of them union jobs (mining, forestry, manufacturing). How many of those jobs were created by that $4.71 billion in additional trade? Hard to say, I couldn't find figures, but 25,000 might be reasonable guesstimate.

25,000 good paying jobs for BC residents seems a good return for the expenditure/effort.

He made that famous declaration in reaction to news that Canadian Pacific Investments Ltd., the Montreal-based subsidiary of the railway company, was seeking to increase its already large ownership position to a controlling interest in MacMillan Bloedel Ltd., the province’s number one forest products company.


That was too much for Bennett. At the time, CP was already a major player in the province and gaining control of MacMillan Bloedel would make it by far the biggest, with headquarters in Central Canada. Bennett vetoed the deal using the provisions of the B.C. Forest Act, which required government approval for any transfer of forest leases from one corporation to another.

Thank you for that excellent link, alan. But since all but one of those acquisitions occurred during the BC Liberal reign, I'm shocked that you still think they deserve your vote.

All governments have had trade missions promoting BC industry , tourisim , tech , agrifoods etc. etc.
The disagreements here started when Ditzy1 said :

Truth be told ( yes I know , truth sometimes kills an otherwise good story ) , the trade mission was in early January.
